    Nissan Datsun 240z Build

    datsunoverview.png

First forum post! Sorry about the random jump into the forums, I was hoping people would like to see another small and crash-able car from the 70's.

I got bored one day and started modeling a favorite car of mine from scratch. I'm trying to create it as close to specification as possible. There are a lot of reference photos involved.

I attempted to make the mesh as low poly as possible, I may have made a few rookie mistakes here and there. The body needs more polishing and fine editing. This is just the start of the build.

Most of the car is modeled and still a lot more work is in store. I modeled all of the parts separately and read the Content Creation portion of the wiki top to bottom at least 5 times.

    TO DO:

    • [*=left]Interior - Right hand steering like a true JDM vehicle... (inside jokes...)
      [*=left]Windows
[*=left]Lights - The parts that "shatter"
      [*=left]Wheels
[*=left]Solidification - Adding some dimension to the flat planes
[*=left]Jbeam - Planning to use a mix of Real-Time Vehicle editor and good old notepad
[*=left]Texturing - Anyone interested in texturing when the mesh is complete?
[*=left]Extra Parts - Slammed suspension and wide-bodies and fender flares, etc.

The Macpherson strut suspension has been modeled. I realize that the MacPherson strut is not supported by BeamNG Drive's engine, but a temporary suspension design will have to do for now.

Feedback, tips and tricks, and helpful comments are welcomed and greatly appreciated.

I hope my project doesn't die. I can't wait to drift it in-game.

This looks great, but I am sorry to be doubtful, but I have very small hopes for this ever getting complete. I know this is harsh, but I am serious. It is harder than just making a model, you also need to make a jbeam. It is really not an easy process. Please, go ahead and prove me wrong, but as of right now, I am not getting my hopes up. The model itself looks great.

I want to see a Jbeam as well. I am skeptical with all the others just making a mesh then going "Oh i give up, here is the mesh link". Other wise great model.

What's better than one S30? two of course;);)

Anyways, I really love the model you have there, and an excellent choice of car. I cannot stress how nice it is (for me) to see someone else make a JNC!

As far as the model goes, the body could use with a bit of tweaking, as the front and rear seem a little off, although the running gear seams spot on (oh and good job at sneaking an RB in there:eek:). If you need any extra blueprints or references, let me know, as a car this good is worth being modeled perfectly.

Don't be intimidated by the jbeam. I would suggest you have a look at how some of Gabe's cars are put together, as well as this thread. Once you understand how the jbeam operates, it's really rather simple.

Good luck with the rest of the modeling and jbeam, BeamNG really needs cars like this:D

Yay! I hate Asian cars, hitting this with a T75 will be so satisfying.

    Really?

If you don't have the patient and skills in jbeaming doesn't mean that someone else doesn't.
Way to let someone new to modding down.

The model looks good and jbeaming isn't that hard after all, keep up the good work :)

Who exactly are you again? Didn't you say your parents bought a Veyron?

I love 240z's, thank you for the effort into it. You should really take the time to make the body higher poly. The 240z has such sexy lines, it would be a shame to see a Derbymutt version.

    Thanks Sergy.

I'll reserve any proper judgement till I see it in game with it's own original Jbeam... but for now it was nice to see.

The last post on this thread was almost a year ago. It's probably a dead project, sorry to say.
