I feel like one of the vehicle devs got bored, made this thing, showed the team and they decided to add it for shits and giggles. I do wonder where this thing will drive though because as far as I know north America doesn't have this type of thing and it's not like it would make sense for them to drive on big roads.

 

i saw it yesterday while playing on Utah as a bamboo Drive Mail Service Vehicle was really confused when i saw it in traffic

 

Sth similar to this do exists in the US

 

Places like LA and San Francisco have waymos, so those are the places that would certainly use these.

It shouldn't really spawn in Utah, but considering it's in North America it makes sense, this means that it might spawn in modded maps whose region is set to north America too, imagine seeing one of those boxes run down River highway.

 

Do they drive on the roads or the footpaths though?

 

normal roads on utah but not really fast mostly between 20 and 40 kmph

 

Since they're traffic vehicles, they will drive on any road whose drivability isn't -1, dirt roads are 0.5 and normal roads are 1. I decided to test one of these going offroad and the AI just flipped itself at max speed, so it's pretty realistic.

 

wait actually, this could make sense

like others pointed out, BeamNG doesn't have a EV only car (with the esbr and FCV's being EV versions of an ICE car), and a ton of new Chinese cars are electric (or hybrid)

the scrunkly mentions China when selecting it in the vehicle selector, despite there not being an official asian map.

if we consider the fact the last map (Johnson Valley) was added years ago, its not out of the question that they've been working on a new map.

however, i'll personally assume its going to be a EUDM spec Chinese car (or cars... have we gotten teasers lately?). and realistically, i feel like Japan would have been a better choice for a asian map, as there's a fuckleton of JDM cars in vanilla beam well, 2 really but still make sense for the robot van to drive around

 

That's pretty weird to me, do they actually drive on roads in America and China? It feels like something that should go around on a footpath of maybe a university campus or something.

 

Haha, I was surprised you guys discovered this car so quickly. I didn't see 100% if the video developer mentioned the car, but it wasn't in the patches since it's a secret vehicle. What else they added was the skin for the Scintilla.

Because it's a Chinese vehicle (obviously it's a robot too) and also because it has a panda paint job, since the panda is the mascot of China, who knows, maybe this year they'll add something with a Chinese theme, like a new car for example.

It just looks too slow to drive on roads to me tbh

 

Honestly they need to add tags to the Ai paths in BeamNG, so this lil robot can only drive on slower roads.

 

maybe not only a chinese map but an west coast expantion towards beams version of silicon valley ?

 

Considering the inspiration for this thing apperent was a reddit video that's only been up for a bit over a month I think this was just a silly side project by a couple members of the team to coincide with the lunar new year; I doubt there's much more to it than that.
