A video I've recorded showcasing a map control menu within the standard radial menu and some parts of the map. I will add an alternative way to toggle weather and road condition by interacting with the environment, for those who seek more immersion
Sorry for no posts on here. I'm still working on the map, but progress has been quite slow due to irl stuff. I'll probably have more time again next year. The project is definitely not abandoned
Some more pictures . . . The geese formations fly accross the sky at certain times, mostly at dawn or evening. If you set the environment time to "play", you may be able to spot them.
This is going to be insane when it comes out! Also one question, will this be released on the repo or forums?
Sawmill & Freeroam Logging Hey there! Sorry for the long time with no posts ... again. I was busy writing exams and creating the sawmill area took a lot longer than I expected. I also worked on some custom lua features which I'll give more information on in the future . The sawmill is located in a small valley north of the dam. Its surrounded by vast deforested areas mainly toward the map's edge and dense forest on the other sides. Apart from logs and planks, they also store some parts of the heavy machinery they use around the place, such as spare tires or log grapplers. Due to the machines' weight, there are deep tread marks left in the snow, which makes this place slightly harder to navigate for non-offroad vehicles. As you can see, I've already created skins (and configs) for the fictional forestry company the sawmill belongs to. It also has its own gas station consisting of a shed and a few gas tanks, slightly elevated above the rest of the sawmill. Now, let's focus on the new gameplay feature I came up with: Freeroam Logging . There is a red button inside the main sawmill buiding. Next to it, you find a notice by the sawmill's staff which gives instructions on what to do. The button is interactable when in walking mode. If you click on it, a few logs are spawned on a rack somewhere on the map. The location is picked at random from a few pre-defined log spots. There are three currently, but I will add more as the map progresses. Your goal is to deliver these logs to the sawmill. As I was driving my truck to the log spot, it started to snow (actually, I set the weather to snowy manually, as it doesn't change by itself - I might add that as an option). You can decide how to get there yourself, as there are (almost) no restrictions - you may even go by plane if you like to . The only restriction is that you cannot swap vehicles to the logs by pressing Tab. My lua code detects this and auto-swaps to the next vehicle. This prevents teleporting the logs to the sawmill - which would be boring anyway . With the logs loaded onto my truck,I made my way back to the sawmill. On the way, snowfall was easing and the sun came back out. To deliver the logs, you have to get them into the marked yellow area. Again - there are no restrictions, it doesn't matter how they end up there. You may take them with the WL40's log grappler all the way accross the map, deliver them by truck as I did, tow them with a helicopter - or whatevere else you come up with. Once you got them into the marked area, you have completed the mission. Now you can go again, if you like to. It's also possible to restart or abandon the logging mission at any point. As I got back to the sawmill, a group of geese flew accross the sky. What a beautiful sight! (I actually didn't plan on this, it was pure coincidence) --- Post updated --- I'm going to release this map on the repo when it's done.
You do this in your free time, so no apologies needed, and wow what a lovely atmosphere around the sawmill, and very happy that you put so much effort for roleplaying in your map, realy great.
