BeamNG should remain PC exclusive and un-consolized.

I just saw the PS5 announcement. Quite frankly I'm aghast at what this means for the game.

Unless they intend to maintain a separate development branch for PS5 (which dev teams are largely too lazy to do, and requires splitting up dev resources anyways) this means that Beam.NG Drive, an advanced physics simulation, is always going to be tied to obsolete, essentially toy grade hardware.

A PS5 base model has specs that, if it were a PC, would be roughly equivalent to an 8 core 2nd gen Ryzen running at a very low clock speed, 16GB of RAM shared between both the GPU and the CPU, and an AMD Radeon RX5700XT. Mind you, not all of these resources are even available to games, with 2 CPU cores and some quantity of memory always being reserved for system functions. Not to mention the fact that these devices largely do not have proper input devices, a controller is fine (and actually superior) for driving a car itself, but most other interactions in the game are best handled through the superior flexibility of a keyboard. Oh yeah and unless I'm mistaken Sony requires this pile of obsolete garbage to always run at atleast 1440p resolution.

We have seen this time and time and time again. Game is great on PC, builds a huge following. Devs get greedy and go for console release. The game suddenly begins to get optimized for controllers, graphics eventually get downgraded to accommodate the comically under-powered GPUs, and features are either removed or de-roadmapped to accomodate the limitations of the consoles laughable CPU. Case in point, look at what happened to Ready or Not. Graphics downgraded and gameplay censored to meet console censorship requirements (granted BeamNG shouldnt run afoul of the latter issue).

So instead of using their resources to deliver new features, improved graphics, and better gameplay for people with REAL gaming hardware they end up hobbling us and spending lots of resources trying to figure out how to make a device one step removed from being a literal toaster run their game.

My graphics card alone costs more than a PS5 Pro. Hell right now my *storage* costs more than a PS5. Why should my gameplay, my graphics, my everything suffer so that brokies can play a crippled version of the game? The messaging from the devs should be "Our advanced simulation can only be handled by powerful, modern PCs. If you want to play spend the $2000 and get yourself a PC".

I bought BeamNG Drive over a decade ago now, I'm honestly kind of annoyed the devs have essentially stabbed their original supporters in the back like this. All mod makers should remove their mods from availability until this console release is cancelled.

Is there anything you don't bitch about? I mean, you were mad when the game came to the Epic Games Store, you're mad about this, and in general, most of your comments on this website seem to say "man, this shit sucks". Last time (September 2025) I mentioned your comments from a decade ago, you got angry at me and claimed that it was petty of me to mention them, but again, you clearly haven't changed in those 10 years.

Maybe they should port it to the original Xbox or a flip phone while they are at it.

You can't optimize a modern, high end PC game to run on what is effectively eWaste without compromises.

I promise you when the 0.39 update hits we are going to find all the things they sacrificed to get BeamNG to consoles. Downgraded textures, lower beamnode counts, downgraded physics calculations, etc.

I just saw that crossplay is a thing too, I really hope there is an option to disable it because I have zero intention of suffering console users.

The whole argument is just you crying about something that you don't want and then asking modders to remove their own mods as protest. The devs put solid effort into it and your willing to complain? Stop complaining and actually appreciate the devs' hard work into this update.

This is actually concerning to me. The devs shouldn't worry about tying themselves to hardware levels as time marches on (with consolization being the ultimate example of this). When hardware becomes a limitation to ambition, that hardware should be abandoned. The user can either upgrade, or miss out.

Its kind of ridiculous that now a days people expect to game on 5+ year old hardware. My previous 2 GPUs I've had to upgrade at 2 years old, at significant cost.

Gaming is a hobby for people with money or whom are willing to prioritize it again, just like it was in the 1990s or 2000s when you were expected to spend $2-3k on a new PC every 2-3 years and it was just accepted as the price of advancement.

 

The perfect example of someone being ungrateful because they don't like this or that.

I dont see a problem with that, seriously. Just remember how the community reacted when the game was launched on the Epic Games Store, almost everyone was aggressive! But did that make the game worse? Definitely not. Oh, btw! All the footage in the new video was shot on a PS5

 

Well, y'know what, if it's this concerning to you, then stop playing the game. Simplest solution to this issue. Or, don't update the game and just stay at 0.38. You complaining on the forums to the devs will not change the game. They've spent tons of their time creating this update, so I doubt they would throw it all away because you said you don't like it.

 

I bet if one recreated scenes from the PS5 version on PC there would be noticeable downgrades.

 

I mean big thing with this to me is why? I mean it doesn't seem to fit what the game has been about from back when the community was small. this feels like a jump too far at the wrong time. consoles and computers in genernal have gotten more pricey. I understand the steam deck but it's more of a pc/ mini pc then a console. I get this can be great but something like this shouldn't hit at this year with price and other worries. I just don't see how this would help when there still so much that looked over I mean one of vehicles being the hopper hasn't beenreally updated or care for. This isn't a good year to push out when people are not getting proper care like my example the hopper. sorry if my speaking isn't the best.
