I have the recommended specs to run the game but it is barely playable on low

My Intel HD 3000 Can run the game quite well, but I use a custom game graphics profile which is somewhere between medium and high. I like graphics, and I don't mind the FPS costs!

    I have a 750 ti w/ i7 4770 and 16gb ram, I can play DayZ on ultra 30 - 60 fps, and I don't have a problem getting 60fps on BeamNG on ultra... thanks..

Talking about the GTX 960... I'm getting one this month :3

It surely could! I'm using a GTX 555 and have no issues running everything on High settings.

Reading this thread is an enlightening experience. Am I right in assuming that there is no dual-core that could run this?

Stupid me, thinking a dual-core could still be decent, guess I'm stuck in reverse more than I realize.

As for 6GB being a dearth of RAM, I think my brain just broke. Goodbye any chance of running this game on Windows XP.

Dual core tells you nothing. Clock speed and actual microarchitecture are more important.
Game does not need 6gb of ram, XP was almost exclusively 32 bit (the 64 bit version was fairly rare back then) and couldn't use 6gb anyway.
To round it off. the game doesn't officially run on XP anyway. Not compatible with the long obsolete OS

normal settings, 1280x1024 full screen. i get 45 (empty grid)

minimum settings i get 60, so either whatever it is you own that has an hd 4000 is throttling itself, or you're cpu limited

I used to have an FX-4300. It was capable of 30fps with cars like the Covet, D15, and Grand Marshall. It couldn't really handle more than one car at a time or any of the heavier (physics-wise) cars.

That's sad. Every Windows since XP has been slightly more annoying than the last. Vista had a few superficial changes that served no apparent purpose. Windows 7 changed Windows' time-honored visual style to a Mac ripoff and beyond that I'm not sure what's different. Windows 8 is, apparently, more user-friendly if you've never used a computer before but a major adjustment if you have.

Xp is old and outdated. Was great, back in 2001.
Vista was a great idea but poorly made and utterly broken.
Win7 was easily the best Windows OS at release. By far. Much faster, more stable, better features, and a better looking UI. The OS that changed Windows' classic style was actually XP.
Win8 is a great OS, IMO the start screen is crap but it is faster and more reliable even than Win7.

Also, some dual core CPUs can run even BeamNG with no problems, Haswell i3's and even high-end Pentiums are rather powerful. Old C2D's however are outdated and won't do very well, especially the 65nm first gen ones, which are over 7 years old.

OT: It's your CPU. Upgrade to an Intel CPU, an i3-4160 or even a Pentium G3258 will be better than an FX-4300.

On that point actually, I had an FX-4100 and my dad had an overclocked Intel Core 2 Duo. That Core 2 Duo ran BeamNG more than fine with a couple cars at once, while the FX struggled horribly and would dip to unplayable framerates in certain places with even the Ibishu Covet. As has already been said, the FX chips (at least the 4100 from personal experience, and the 4300 and 6300 from what I've heard I've heard) have pretty abysmal performance, and I concur that even the older AMD chips outperform them.

OP, that FX-4300 is your problem, and the only real solution is to upgrade your processor.

BeamNG does / used to run on WIN XP. I have tested this a long time ago (okay so 2.5 years ago) as an XP computer was my main computer, the tech demo ran like crap tho.

Also, because I tested a long time ago, I can confirm that this game is MASSIVELY CPU. That computer, had a 550ti in it. other people are saying that the 550ti can run this game fine. but the CPU was a dual core 2.2ghz and it ran like pewp, so maybe the CPU is causing the issue.
