    My laptop specs

    Device: ROG Zephyrus G14
    Processor: AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 w/ Radeon 890M (2.00 GHz)
RAM: 32.0 GB (31.1 GB usable)
dGPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti Laptop GPU (12 GB)

On update 0.38 the game would run a lot better. I could get ~80 FPS at 4K on the Ultra preset while playing in the West Coast USA map. On version 0.39 the game barely gets up to ~40 FPS on the High preset under the same conditions. If I lower it to the Normal preset, it can sometimes reach ~60 FPS, but still stays between 40 and 50 FPS. The CPU is very under utilized, its only running under 26% load consistently. The GPU on the other hand is constantly running at it's peak, 98% to 100%. The VRAM usage is nearly 80% at all times, 8.5GB out of 11.7GB available. There is a small improvement in performance if I force it back down to DX11, but its still not nearly to what is used to be.

The game needs some serious graphics optimizations. It also could really benefit from DLSS & FSR technology. Modern graphics cards are just being under utilized without upscaling and frame generation. I hope to see work being done on the performance side of things.

Is anyone else experiencing a large performance hit with version 0.39?

I've got an RTX 5090 desktop and I can barely break 60 fps on ultra settings at 4k. GPU utilization is about 70% and two of my CPU threads are hitting around 60-70% while the rest sit at around 10-30%. Other games like Forza Horizon 6 can hit almost 90 with raytracing on or 120+ without raytracing.

A lot of people say that BeamNG is hard to run because it's very CPU heavy due to the softbody physics. But in my experience that doesn't seem to be very true. Yes, framerates will suffer due to high CPU usage if there are a lot of cars on screen. But if you keep only one car on the screen the game typically becomes GPU-bound.
BeamNG seems to scale very poorly with high resolutions, which also kinda explains why VR performance is so poor.

Even though the graphics in 0.39 are becoming almost up to par with other racing games on the market, BeamNG still has a very long way to go in terms of performance. After this renewed focus on the game's graphics, I hope they continue working on optimizing it because with an RTX 5090 I really should be hitting nearly 120 fps without raytracing tbh.

I admit, despite some recent issues with textures appearing low resolution, I do like the graphical improvements. It just needs to be balanced with some better performance. I find a game that runs poorly far less enjoyable than a game that doesn't look as good.

I am glad to see it's not just me, you even have a more powerful GPU than mine. Our performance shouldn't be that low. I see on the Steam forums people just boldly declaring that the only ones complaining have low end PCs, my PC isn't exactly a desktop but it's still on the high end. It can play pretty much everything at 4k, max settings, and at ~100 FPS.

I think the game is moving in a good direction, and personally I think the new UI is awesome with a gamepad. The graphical performance is just gonna keep me away from it till it's addressed.
