BeamRadio I’m working on BeamRadio, a mod that brings live internet radio stations into BeamNG.drive using a free, public radio API. Planned/Implemented Features: 61,000+ live stations from around the world Search by station, genre, country, or language Favorites and listening history Popular, random, and map-local station discovery Compact, resizable UI app Different interior and exterior volume Muffling through closed doors and windows Volume fading as the camera moves away from the vehicle Radio interference or failure after electrical and antenna damage Local stations based on the map, such as American stations on West Coast USA Full, spatial car audio How it works: 2 modes: Radio Mode (live radio with 61,000+ world-wide stations) PC Mode (live PC audio routed through BeamNG, etc Spotify, Apple Music, or regular YouTube) (all songs have custom bass so it sounds great) Unlike existing music-player mods, BeamRadio will stream real radio stations instead of playing local MP3 files. No music will be included with the mod—the player connects directly to each station’s stream. It’s still in development, so suggestions and feedback are welcome. Installation (after zip extraction): 1. BeamRadio requires Python with the following packages installed: Code: iimageio-ffmpeg>=0.6,<1 numpy>=1.26,<3 process-audio-capture>=1,<2 pycaw>=20251023,<20270000 requests>=2.32,<3 sounddevice>=0.5,<1 websockets>=12,<16 winrt-runtime>=3.2,<4 winrt-Windows.Foundation>=3.2,<4 winrt-Windows.Media.Control>=3.2,<4 (save above as requirements.txt, run cmd in the same folder location, and enter pip install -r requirements.txt, or use the already-made requirements.txt inside of the zip) 2. Run beamradio_bridge.py. 3. Place beamradio.zip in your default mods location. (for me, it's C:\Users\YourUser\AppData\Local\BeamNG\BeamNG.drive\current\mods) 4. Add the UI app to your layout 5. Done, enjoy! (this is my first mod, please expect bugs.)
This is amazing, but one suggestion. Can you tie it to the ignition state of the last player vehicle?
I’ve always wanted a radio mod in the style of GTA. The only thing that existed was Zeit's Radio, which is basically just a music player, and there never seemed to be anyone who would make a proper GTA-style radio system. So I started making my own radio mod. Just to be clear, I have absolutely no idea, how beamng works inside, but modern AI systems have allowed me to build at least part of the widget and the actual radio system (and it works perfectly fine for me, i get what i want). However, during development I discovered that in order to make everything work properly — specifically, to behave like GTA radio stations — you have to have all the stations (and mp3 tracks) running simultaneously and keep them in memory, because the game doesn’t have any functionality for seeking through audio. To make sure there are no freezes when switching between radio stations, all the music has to be loaded into memory. I currently added all the audio files from GTA III through San Andreas as the station content, and this ended up adding around 2 GB of RAM usage to the game, even after I compressed the audio quality. So some quality songs, can easy add gigs of ram usage to the game!! But now I understand that with your approach, the audio stream basically comes from outside the game and doesn’t load all that extra data into memory? Could I also load my own files there — for example, my own MP3 radio station files from the GTA games? By the way, I also wanted my radio to physically exist inside the car, so you could interact with it using the controls, as if you were actually operating it from inside the cabin. The biggest problem is figuring out how to make this universal. I’ve already burned through all the tokens I had trying to get AI to help me implement controls directly on the radio display, similar to how it works in the Hirochi CCF mod, or alternatively through triggers inside the vehicle. The problem is that I still don’t understand how to add dashboard triggers to every vehicle in a universal way, so that the system would work with all cars, including modded ones. If you manage to make it work, it would be amazing to add a feature like “real in-car player controls without using the widget”, working for every vehicle, including mods.
FEATURE REQUEST: muffled radio stations in random traffic cars It'd be neat if some traffic cars randomly had the radio playing, like in GTA games. ofc I don't know the technical complexity of this, but it seems like the biggest hurdle would be having multiple radio streams running at the same time and switching them in and out between channels. Dynamic muffled audio or a low-pass filter would also be nice for normal playing when in a third-person camera angle or outside your car, with open/broken windows or doors unmuffling the sound. EDIT: audio already quietens when outside the car and doors are closed, but a low-pass filter would help sell the effect even more
same here lol i tried running the command in cmd but all it said was this --- Post updated --- BY SOME GRACE I GOT IT TO WORK!!! i had to run it in powershell and ensure the pip format was installed on python --- Post updated --- ...now, how do i route audio from apple music to beamng? EDIT: NVM --- Post updated --- Now I'm getting a bug where song's don't pause when i pause them with the UI App. i can play the music, but i can't adjust the volume nor pause the song YET ANOTHER EDIT: i had to use the green play button to pause the music, but i still can't adjust volume/bass for PC Audio
currently having issues with PC Radio not working despite having the requirements.txt and python thing done, having the .py file open, and having apple music open too. i cleared my cache already so idk why it's happening. all it says is "no playable stations remained in the list" even though i followed all the steps for it to work
yet ANOTHER reply (sorry) but it seems that everything (audio slider, bass, TPA) works fine with PC Audio now, so... i guess it's just connectivity issues the addon has? as in, most of the time it refuses to connect to PC Audio (or even the things listed above if it does connect to PC Audio) ..and, btw. the live radio works completely fine, nothing wrong there
