If we think from a gameplay perspective… adding military weapon‑carrying vehicles doesn't really make much sense either. First, the developers would have to spend a long time researching technologies that are almost never seen on civilian cars. Second, these vehicles have very limited usage scenarios—they can't be driven and used everywhere like other cars in the game. I think it's not worth the time and cost to build a vehicle that can't be used in most maps, especially when even forklifts and mining trucks can be used in most environments. Moreover, military weapons mean explosion and destruction effects need to be implemented, which would require more realistic smoke and fire particle effects, as well as environmental destruction and more authentic shockwave physics—this only adds more development time and pressure… So I believe that if the developers consider making vehicles from Eastern Europe or the Soviet Union, choosing a civilian car is a much better decision than making a military one. I also don't want to see people using those military vehicles to make low-quality videos just to attract kids, which could cause trouble for BeamNG and get it labeled as violent. There are already many children watching videos of this game…
I've never said it has to be a military weapon-carrying vehicle. It could be a much bigger T-series with off-road and better towing capacity to the detriment of his size. The engine is one of the most interresting part, a V12 producing 520 hp for 2 150 Nm at 1 200 Tr/min. The V8 in the T-series can produces more than 1 000 hp or much more and aproximatively 3 000 Nm, but it's penalized by it lighter weight than the soviet 8x8. And if the V8 can procude all this power, I don't even dare to imagine teh V12 producing even more power and torque than the T-series's biggest engine.
This is of course interesting! In fact, I think the T series needs a high-performance variant that can be used for truck racing, In this way, V12 can be used, and a version suitable for the wild is also needed, just like the B series. Perhaps the production cycle of T series can also be extended to 2000's, just like those American trucks in reality, developers should indeed provide more truck engine configurations.
Oh, and something I forgot to mentionned is the fact the soviet 8x8 features a hydromechanical transmission with a 3-speed planetary gearbox, coupled to a two-speed transfer case. I think we select the gear ourselves, like if we have activated the clutch assistant in the options of the game, selecting a gear with the H-gearbox controller without touching the clutch pedal. And of course, it should have the clutch thermal simulated. That could be a "new mechanic" for the gearbox. Also, the engine is a V12 38.8 liters.
I'm tempted by the idea of a Soviet car in BeamNG, I'd love to see what a car like this can do in the sim/game. And since our talk brought the military in as a subject, I'd also love to see the Piccolina's air-cooled RR layout getting in further exploitation in light military service vehicles. Kinda like the VW Kubelwagen and the amphibious Schwimmwagen (the Wydra shouldn't be alone in this one, after all ). Autobello makes some simple and tough little air-cooled engines, after all, so its point could be further driven home by these military vehicles!
Joke on y'all lmao, I would really ike to see a tank if we get threaded vehicles one day. If its a WW2 tank, other than ballistics and the threads, I don't think its that complicated tech-wise?
State of the world right now? When did wars stop happening? Unless you live in or near an active warzone, please stop. I know some of y’all are young, but doomscrolling and fear mongering are not healthy pastimes. If you have time to sit and talk about a car game, chances are your life is pretty ok As for Beam, the only military vehicles I could see are military transport trucks like 5 tons or modern Oshkosh vehicles, or an APC. They’ve dabbled into armored vehicles with the bank/swat truck
The (soviet) tank and soviet 8x8 can share the same engine, like the V12 of the T-34. We had a modded post-war soviet tank in the past and it didn't triggered some players. Also, we have a cannon, a crushers machines, so a military tank can be added without restriction.
how did we go from talking about the new European truck to talking about vehicles from the Soviet Union?
Not a bad shout. I know those were in Gran Turismo 5 and 6 before being superseded by the Willys MB in 7.
A Kubelwagen-type thing would be very interesting to have in game! Although on the topic of the Piccolina, I wish it had a less powerful engine. The flat four in it right now is perfectly realistic, and actually blends in perfectly with its real life counterpart. The car was introduced in 1957, the year the VW Beetle had a 36 hp f4 engine with a top speed of around 68 MPH. The early Piccolina matches up mostly perfectly with all of that, and I love that the devs blended the VW with the Fiat. I just kinda wish it had a 2 cylinder low horsepower engine, considering the Fiat 500 literally came out with 479cc.
I know we only saw what looked like an inline 6 in the new truck, but could there be a possiblilty for more options like inline 6's with larger bores and longer strokes for more power or the fabled Scania v8 with open heads. Cause i know truck companies will offer multiple engine options.
A Tatra sedan would be very cool, given that it would be a car platform that would run from Soviet to post-Soviet times, along with being a luxury sedan which would have a rear-mounted V8 and would also have very bizarre styling, ranging from the 50s to the 90s IIRC.
And, to extend it a little bit more, so were the Typ 2 and the Karmann Ghia. I'd also like to see Autobello models like these too! --- Post updated --- Hmmm... It's true, the Piccolina is a bit large (not really - it's tiny, we're just talking with an analogy ) and something like the Fiat 500 and even the Subaru 360 or my favourite Mazda Carol 360 Coupe could still be introduced in BeamNG. Speaking of these cars, though, and especially the Subaru 360, we can leave Autobello alone and think about Hirochi having a car like this, since it's the 'Subaru' brand of BeamNG! As for the Piccolina's 1.1 engine, I agree, it's perfectly fine and in line with the Beetle of that era, because I know that the first type, with the split oval rear window, had an 1100cc engine, just like the base Piccolina!
