I remember that I had tried activating rivers in MapNG.com and something appeared … the rivers were in unexpected places and not working correctly. So maybe it would be possible to generate a terrain this way and then refine it in World Editor (but I haven't tried that myself)
Hi alexkidd! im making a map and used your tool and generate biome for the foundations. now i want to edit the trees that were placed with the forest tool, but every time i edit it, it gets reset the next time i join the map. how can i fix this?
What do you mean by editing? I had trees on the road and deleted them away with the forest tool brush. Didn't affect the rest of the trees.
You need to cut and paste the levels file in the BeamNG current folder back to the main level mod folder, or open the forest folder and delete it. Anyway, i find that for big map, modifying terrain material is quite unstable and will crash the game. Can i request a feature to modify terrain materials outside of beam?
Haven't been able to grab OSM data the last week, tried reinstalling the BeamNG Mapping tools, but no luck. Anyone else experiencing this? Could it be due to large map sizes? (16x16) - yes I'm a crazy, but it worked many times before!! Now it stalls out, "BadGateway" errors. ---EDIT ---- It worked again after I posted this ofc. This tool is fantastic, thanks!
I always launch directly from the .exe, no need for Steam eating up RAM I get 40-60 FPS on most maps, a 100 on some very simple maps (ported Assetto Corsa maps with 2D Trees etc)
Been messing around with this tool again, and it works very, very well. Made my first 16k map with no problems I do have a curiosity/suggestion, though. I noticed the "Generate Biome" tool has minimum and maximum slope values; could this same functionality be applied to terrain paint, or is that a different system? I feel it would make maps look even better out of the gate if I could designate rock terrain to generate at 35 degrees or more, for example, or have different grasses for different slopes. At the moment I have some very grassy cliffs that look a bit odd, which made me think about this
Calm down, there's probably a solution. What did you start with in your case? Did you export a GeoTiff from Mapng.com and import that into BeamNG Mapping Tools? Did you watch the BeamNG Mapping Tools tutorial vids yet? Watch the newest one right away if you didn't. EDIT: I don't have the tunnel made yet and neither has it correct elevation data, but the thing is as soon as you get a drivable version that looks nice it becomes very hard to keep up progress on the map. Every time I have free time I simply drive it instead of polishing further. That said I will eventually get this dream road of mine up to spec. Definitely. Now back to more testdriving ;-) Thank you again Alex for your invaluable tool! I hope you're doing well.
Hey, I'm working on my own automation tool, specialized for my own locale (which is Tirol) - I wonder if it's alright to reuse some of your code for my purposes (dealing with different specific data providers and so on - I work with local geodata in my day-to-day, so it's not much of an issue to get good info on vegetation, land cover, traffic infrastructure on top of OSM); basically, I'd try to make a few special enhancements which are of no direct use to anyone NOT doing maps in Tirol and maybe neighbouring regions - no idea if that is interesting or, more relevant, ok for you? Strictly non-commercial purpose on my behalf, by the way.
I've been using the Rename Map tool in this terrific app for weeks to copy original maps and modify them to left lane driving. As I make unrecoverable errors in my map, I just delete it and start over. Yesterday when copying east_coast_usa, I came across something I'd not seen before. Directly after renaming, I opened the level with traffic, but I noticed I had no parked cars. I tried to spawn parked cars manually but got "Traffic not supported in this level". Note that the driving traffic was just fine, so this error seemed odd. I went back to the original level, no problems with parked cars. Can someone point me in the direction of where I might have gone astray? It seems weird as neither the app nor the tool has been updated afaik. Matthew
