Mouse steering as controller input template [SOLVED]

For several hours I have been trying to adjust my mouse (In the end, I didn't even bother with any of other options but the x axis) into a template but nothing has seemed to change into my favour.

The question is, is it even possible to implement mouse steering into a template? Or at least disable the camera control with mouse (seeing as there is no default template for a mouse, only kb) so I can try to do it myself again and hopefully not fruitlessly.

Don't want to bug anyone, but seriously, there has been nothing about mouse steering from devs since somebody asked back in December, how is this acceptable?

Yea, it will be great idea to support mouse steering in this game with tahs physics, like in Live For Speed for example! :)

You just have to create a file called
    mouse.inputmap.cs
in the inputmaps folder (just like for controllers and wheels) and then set the contents of that file to
    moveMap.bind(%device, xaxis, joy_steer);
(replacing the xaxis with whatever axis you want to use)

Ahhhh, if all was so easy....., it was first, that i tried, and car just turn it's wheels right or left, without any adjusting and it can't keep the wheels straight, so it was terrible, it seems need to edit something in .lua files

Забей парень, полная задница, мы вчера с Kryotex'ом пытались накрутить эту темку, ничерта, вроде бы для джоев так возможно, но мышку не хочет как джой восппринимать..

Yeah, the deadzone or ranged settings won't fix the issue, the mouse will never center the steering, it will go infinitely to the side you are pointing your mouse - and if you let go, it still will make the car turn forever.

To guys posting in russian - I know this issue is very frustrating but even if I can read in russian, other people can't and therefore you will get less support because you can't be arsed to write in english, in an english speaking forum. You can do this only when/if they introduce multi-language subforums.

Edit for a note: If you don't use mouse steering and use the camera normally, try to move the camera to 3/4 of your car's rear and drive. The camera will never ever return to the back (or center) of your car and this issue happens to the steering. That is because the camera is set up this way, right? Without that we would actually have some proper mouse steering.

i think we can't set up mouse steering because the game read mouse as on/off value, i saw the input debug and there were just 2 columns with 1 partition at the middle, so the mouse axis moves just left or right and with this stuff we can't ever set up any mouse steering, so we need to wait for dev implement it or it never happens (only if some super high skilled programmer will magic with base lua code)

Thanks. Do you think the auto-centering is bad? :p
I could make it better (work with speed). I think I'm going to make an update, patching the mentioned bug, changing it to more LFS like controls and doing the speed thing. Sounds good or do you guys want something else?

Well, I would really like a version without any auto-centering whatsoever, that's how I am used to all of my racing games, really. I wonder if that is possible? But as it is now, I am not too worried about the centering because it seems fine.

Although, it's obvious other people might want better auto-centering so an update would be nice.

Ok, the auto-centering was a "feature", I added it in, I'll see if I can make a menu to change deadzones, sensitivity, centering etc :D

Maybe you will make a separate thread about it?

+1, auto-center is bad for perception.
