Hello. i am looking into building a desktop computer that is going to be used for all around gaming but primarily beamNG with a wheel setup. and i am looking for knowledge on what to put into my computer from a hardware standpoint that will allow me to run beamNG on the highest possible settings with multiple AI cars plus large high textured maps and multiple moving car parts such as a truck with a trailer all at or above 60FPS. for now i don't have a budget at the moment and if you tell me what kind of hardware i need the most of then i can do most of the research myself. but i was just wandering if someone could supply an answer in short without typing some long specs list with detailed explanations of what all the parts do, believe i'm in A+ IT ESSENTIALS I KNOW WHAT EVERYTHING DOES!:p

    Thanks

    Liam

Multiple instances of complex jbeam at 60fps? I'm not going to spoon feed you the answers; you'll have to do a little homework.

Pair the absolute fastest processor you can find with a GTX 770 or above. Overclock. Gigabyte, Asus motherboards very rarely fail, but as is the case with most things, you get what you pay for. Get 2x4GB or 2x8GB of the cheapest RAM you can find; fancy heat spreaders and 'gamer' branding is all marketing shite. Don't cheap out on the PSU. Get one with good warranty from a reputable brand. Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo is the go-to for cheap but very effective cooling.

well what does it take to run ONE jbeam structure. CPU or GPU power? im not very educated with jbeams so i'm hoping i don't sound like a complete idiot asking what recourses they are most hungry for;).

CPU: (Most imporant part for BeamNG. It's a physics simulation, and the CPU does all the calculations)
CPU talking, it's known that Intel's performs better in BeamNG than AMD's. (Calm your tits fanboys, I'm not saying AMD is bad)
BeamNG uses one core per vehicle (at the moment). So having more core is a +1, and having good single-core performances is a must for BeamNG.
Personally, I used BeamNG across 2 different builds. In my previours build I had a i5 2500 (non-K), running at 3.2Ghz (Stock). It was good, until you tried to load a Moonhawk (still playable, around 35FPS) or worse with a T75 (under 20FPS).
Now I'm on a i7 4790K, 4.0Ghz Stock, and I have no trouble running any vehicles.
When (and if ever) BeamNG will have the ability to split a single vehicle load on all the processors, single-core performance will have less impact probably.

    GPU: (I run at 1920x1080)
I had tried BeamNG on 3 different Nvidia GPUs.
-GTS450: It's a cheap card, now rated as low-end. Ran BeamNG ok. SSAO was a no with that.
-GTX660 (non-Ti): It's a good card. Ran BeamNG quite well, with SSAO and etc. Approx FPS on ECA was around 30-40FPS (Consider you might find only 660Ti version nowadays, which is about 15% faster or more)
-GTX970 (current): No matter what, 50-60FPS

    RAM:
8GB of Ram is a good starting point. Some maps already take up to 2GB themself, so having 4GB is out of discussion. That also means you need a 64bit system to use more than 4GB of ram.

While Intel/Nvidia usually costs more, my power usage is fairly low:
50W on Idle & a peak of 240W on Full Load (for my whole system) - Approximately around 30KWh, that's around 5.70€ of electric bill (1KWh = 0.19€)

Choosing AMD might be a good choice if you want to save up some dollars, but consider that TDP is usually higher. Then it's up to you.

so i saw that you said beaming uses one core per vehicle. so one core performance is important. so i was wandering if there is any performance reduced if i have hyper threading in my cpu. or does it even use the hyper threading? thanks

If anyone was like... WHAT? because of my last comment, Hyper threading is intel's way of effectively doubling the cores in a CPU by adding an extra thread per core. so if you have a quad core CPU with 4 logical cores then you end up with 8. 4 logical cores and 4 virtual or hyper threaded cores. or if your me you have a laptop with a super crappy I5 with 2 cores that they shoved an extra 2 hyper threaded cores into it to make the laptop not sound as crappy and allow them to raise the price without sounding crazy.

I run this game (on a laptop) in full screen with all settings on lowest at around 45 or 50 fps... It doesn't do much with an i3... sadly... if only I had a brand new asus with an i7 and hyper threading.... man... I would be running at like 50fps on near to maxed settings...

My friend got the techdemo for this game on an asus i7 at around 50fps without hyper threading.. An i5 with hyper threading doesn't sound TO bad... at least your not me with an i3 and hyper threading

Hyper threading won't do much, since BeamNG can't utalize multiple cores per vehicle YET.

so a quad or six core is my best bet in terms of the CPU side of things?

Quad core is ok for BeamNG. If you choose one with Hyper Threading, it will result in 4 Physical Cores and 8 Logical Cores (I do believe HT already increase single core performances).
More Cores = Better | Better Single Core Performance = Better

Don't go for something with 8 Cores but that has sub-zero Single Core performance, you won't get anything useful out of that.

well i think i have the CPU part of things figured out. High end single core power coupled with a GTX 980 or so with about 12 GB or more of lower end ram. are there any wheel setups that you guys suggest that are known to work with beamNG?

My old g25 was one of the best setups I had. I purchased a Fanatec GT3RS wheel kit and it was really nice. Just annoying to set up. I sold it to Potato on these forums. Now a days I wish I didn't thanks to forcefeedback and other stuff. Look for a Logitech G27 can't go wrong with one of those.
