    6-7MB/s is correct

speedtest measures in mega BITS per second (hence the LOWERCASE b)

steam and things like that will measure in megaBYTES per second

there are 8 bits in a byte

    50 megabits is 6.25 megabytes

so 6 megabytes per second is exactly what you should be getting, so there's absolutley nothing wrong here

Well, I'm currently running Mint off of a disk and to be perfectly honest, I'm quite happy with it! Compared to Ubuntu, it is easier to use and very fast. Definately thinking of doing a dual-boot after I re-install windows or get my current windows repaired. I have transfered all of my important data to a USB and telling my dad that my PC is ready to be taken away by his mate at his will... I don't know why but when I get a new OS, even if not perminant, I always change the desktop background first, don't know what it is but I don't really like the default one and a E28 M5 should be fine for now.

To be perfectly honest, the i7 4790K is the best performance CPU you can get for games, that use mostly 1-4 cores. The 4670k is basically a i7 4770k with hyperthreading disabled and a slightly smaller cache. The LGA2011-3 CPUs have less single core performance than a LGA1150 processor due to them being more about cores rather than clockspeed, although clock speed isn't the only factor of why it is slower. So yes, get a 1150 socket CPU if you care about performance today, go for LGA2011-3 CPUs if you want better performance (probably) in the long run if games get more multi-core support.

what do you know then joe? I know this is not an overclocking forum, but what tip do you have that I can add to my knowledge quiver?

Do you mirror sand your cpu block or have a recommendation on locating those very tiny frequencies that buzz out from the case no matter how quiet I can get it?
    don't just leave me here

Which CPU and GPU do you have at the moment?
I currently have a Q9550, and I have to say it still performs okay. You could also opt for a Q9650 or similar. Shouldn´t be way more expensive than a Q6600.

E7500 and a R7 250x. My current MB is really shit, it started burning out it's own chips and sensors a long time ago, and it still works.
I looked at Q9500's, they only come alone, none come in a combo. Also every Q6600 combo comes with 4x1GB RAM. Great.
    Also a Q6600+MB+4GB DDR2 is 100e. If I would go for a Q9500 (50e), ASUS MB (40e) and 2x2GB DDR2 RAM (50e-yeah insane i know...) my wallet would be thinner for the price of a TX3+.

Clock for clock, Haswell-E performs only slightly better than Haswell. The only reason the 4790K has better single thread performance is the much higher clock. If you disable two cores on a 5930K and clock it to 4 GHz, then disable boost in the 4790K, performance will be very similar.

In fact, single-threaded performance of a 5930K (3.5 GHz base, 3.7 boost) is very close to an i5-4690K (3.5 GHz base, 3.9 boost).

so intel has stated that the iGpu performance of skylake is going to be improved over haswell by 50%

neat, i wonder what dedicated card it'd be equivalent to

    you can dream at least...
knowing Intel it will probably be a 15% performance gain towards the current generation.

A Q6600 will definitely perform better than a E7500, but the E7500 is newer and has better single-core performance. Also, the manufacturing process is newer (45nm vs 65nm).

But DDR2 RAM isn't 50e right? I can find Samsung sets on ebay for around 11E... (Or didn't I understand something?)

    Bosnia yo... 2GB DDR2 Noname 20e
A Q6600 is also a quad core and has more than double the transistors.

    Wow... Wonder what DDR4 costs..
And it is indeed quad core but I thought that was obvious :p

I just discovered that the little line of dirt on my dubbed "Steam Monitor" is not actually dirt. The polarizer for the LCD is cracked, without the actual LCD being damaged at all.

    This sucks.

If it's just the glossy layer, peel it off. If it actually is the polarizer, peel it off and make glasses with it as the lenses so you can look at porn in front of everyone.

You have some more budget to play with. MSI Z97 Gaming 5 motherboard is what I use. Never had a problem. Instead of the wireless, go for power-line networking. From an Ethernet port on your router, into the wall, to you computer. I get full speed in my room now.

I'm also jealous of that case. Me want.

not going to risk the power plugs not being on the same curcuit, this pc is going to end up in an apartment

also it's a pretty open floor-plan, i'm sure it's going to be a good enough signal to get near full speeds if not full speeds

and yeah, i've always liked the h440, i don't know what it is about it but it just screams "I AM AWESOME" to me

what's wrong with gigabyte? they usually make pretty good products, i see no reason why this motherboard would be
