Working on a Honda Civic EG6 - trying to make this smoother and using less vertices that my S13.. (imported from here) - - - Updated - - - Small update.. (imported from here)
Hehe thanks.. Another update - Can anyone tell me why when I add smoothing the windows go round? How can I fix that? (imported from here) (imported from here)
Think of smoothing the windows as smoothing a box A box gets rounded edges, windows also get rounded edges and the vertices come inward. Looks good so far
That'll just add useless vertices to the window area and it will be even rounder Best thing is not to smooth it at all, that is a last step that can be done manually
Hehe right When making the underbody, engine and interior - should they be on seperate layers? or objects?
I wouldn't recommend that method of smoothing because, well, that happens. All parts should be independent of the frame, just like a real car.
Hah right Yeah I know, I read that you should build it in one piece first - the body - and then make each panel separate pieces? Will give it ago soon. - - - Updated - - - (imported from here) (imported from here) Not entirely sure how I should do the headlights and rear lights? Door handles, wing mirrors etc..
Channeling gabester here, but you need some curvature on those window pillars. (imported from here) You can see the real EG6 doesn't have straight pillars, they have a slight arch to them, basically kind of "pulled out" towards the middle. You might want to do that before modelling anything that might rely on the pillars.
I have seen gabester telling that if you are going to put the car ingame you shouldn't use Subdivision Surface Make it "Smooth" and then add Edge Split modifier
I've added a slight bow to it now, thanks for pointing it out Oh right, I have no idea how to use Edge Split though lol.. any good tutorials?
OMG thanks for that project , the game definetly need a civc to crash^^( i count the covet as something subaru justy like , to small for a civic) Have you allready thought about available engine options? i'd like to see a K20 in it
Oh right, I have no idea how to use Edge Split though lol.. any good tutorials?
There is nothing difficult.Just select the whole mesh in Object mode and go on the left and select "Smooth" next to "Flat".Then stay in Object mode and add modifier "Edge Split" to 45 degrees.Done P.S Don't forget to delete the Subsurf first
Of course! Once I understand how to get it in game I will make every plausible engine for it. There is nothing difficult.Just select the whole mesh in Object mode and go on the left and select "Smooth" next to "Flat".Then stay in Object mode and add modifier "Edge Split" to 45 degrees.Done P.S Don't forget to delete the Subsurf first
Haha I see, it has made it look smooth - but some of the edges are still very sharp, I guess I will have to manually smooth them? Thanks!!
Good work so far! You still have a long road ahead of you. I think you have it solved, but anyway, my 2 cents, You could start with the whole body first & towards the ending separate them into different objects (hood, front fascia, etc.). I somehow feel it easier to start with each of them separate from the beginning. I would recommend doing the chassis in another layer, or you could start it in the same layer & then move it to another layer, your wish. But it should be a different object in any case. Anyway, I'm no expert at modelling, hardly a beginner, so treat my suggestion that way Also, do you use blueprints? Try searching for some, it helps a ton to have a blueprint as your background. Helps you get the shape & sizes right. btw, Good Luck with it!
