Does your FPS jump to either 30FPS and 60FPS without going inbetween?
It makes me think of a problem with Vsync being always ON even when it shouldn't be.

^Obviously that happens in Fullscreen mode only.

no it does not jump. if dynamic reflections are enabled i have nearly exactly 30 fps and if i press J the fps are relatively fast going to 60 fps (ca. 2-3sec).
when dynamic reflections are disabled i have 57-60 fps most of the time.

Well Dynamics reflection are a really FPS hog. Forget about turning them to the max, not even a 970/980 can (What those do is basically re-render the whole scene around the car, in 6 different angles).
A reasonable settings for reflection on a 970 is:

    Text Size to 2
Faces per frame to 6 (I like it smooth), but 3-4 is good too
    Details to 0.2-0.3
    Distance to 150-200m

I have a GTX 670. But I wonder why pausing the physics gets the FPS back to 60? Thought pausing the physics would only affect CPU?
And as I said I ran 0.3.8.3 with Dynamic Reflections just fine.

If you pause the physics, you are removing a massive load from the CPU. If the CPU struggles, it will bring down the FPS with it.

Exactly what I was saying. But why are the Dynamic Reflections dependent on CPU load? Shouldn't the reflections be calculated on the GPU?

If the dynamic reflections are disabled I have 60fps with and without physics.
If the dynamic reflections are enabled, I have 30 fps with physics and 60 fps without physics.

I had the same issue, so I deleted everything from my documents/beamng drive folder (except mods folder) and then after restart performance was fixed. My GPU usage after these latest updates in beamng was only 50%, now it's again using GPU @ max

dafuqq just randomly tried putting settings to high, and fps goes to 60 fps (whilst standing still) BUT it does drop weirdly a lot when driving aroudn (goes down to like 50)

There must be some performance issue somewhere :/

Can you confirm if that happens ONLY (or more often) in the scenarios OR in both scenarios and free roam?

Happens in both scenarios and free roam for me, and generally happens in the same spots, when looking at certain things. For example, spawn in East Coast, and rotate the camera around the car. You'll see that when the camera is pointed towards the town, the FPS drops from 60 to 35.

EDIT: Oh, yes, I forgot to mention I'm running at Low settings, No PostFX, No AA, and No DR

    With a 970. uhh

(using JRI) Same here, 20fps on max, even with PostFX turned off. Turning off dynamic reflections brings me to 35-40. A large boost by dropping faces per update to 1 while keeping everything else maxed. Drawcalls drop from a seeming max of 12822 (doesn't change) to a spazzing number from 8-9k. Turning if off completely drops draw calls to 8386. Polycount also drops from 10.8m to 6.75m. At this point with everything maxed but PostFX and dynamic reflections off fps is crazy, going from 29 to 48 randomly, and everything in-between. Dropping AA and AF to off does nothing.

SSAO has the standard 5fps change. Normals are 36-53fps but usually in the low 40s. Low is 40-55, usually low 50s. Lowest is still only 47-55fps, average at about 54fps.

I'd be glad to test this more for you guys along with different drivers and such but I'm going on a week long trip. Currently on 14.12 Omega drivers.

Additions: Sometimes driving around JRI I'll have a slowdown to 15fps then for almost a full second I up to the high 50s (on max) then it goes back to 25-30.

EDIT:I Just invalidated all my work. :(
closing out of a background program using some RAM and CPU time (not much, but enough) my fps is up to 45 in the same situations. Gah. I was at 60-80% usage, not I'm in the 40s. BeamNG just needs very clean CPU time I guess.

For me it even happens on grid map(freeroam). The frames variate btween 58 and 60 but it feels way worse than that for some reason. On other maps it's pretty much not playable if you want to drive a good time or without crashing. Before the update 40 fps on detailed maps felt smoother than 60 on gridmap right now. Btw. I don't use dynamic reflections.

Well, as explained before, what Dynamic Reflection do is Re-Render the whole scene around the car in 6 different angles. So that's more than doubling the GPU effort.
Plus JRI being extremely vegetation intensive, that's an kill if you try to use the dynamic reflection maxed out (Lowering Distance & Detail helps a lot in these cases).

^Thanks about the info. I can tell I feel pretty much the same thing. FPS floats around 50-60FPS, but feels very stuttery. Something fishy happened, still under investigation..

Changed my post because I did it all wrong. Seems like BeamNG needs a very open CPU.

However I am not getting the stuttering. Perfect 60 for me on gridmap without dynamic reflections, mid-lower 50s with it on. Still no stutter though.

Exactly what's happening to me rn. Both freeroam and scenario.

Only way that makes it just a bit playerable is to set fps limit to 40, so at least stable fps but still missing those 60 fps :/

Even with dynamic reflections and SSAO off I'm getting fps in the 20-35 range on ECA, can somebody confirm that a 980m should be performing better than that? There is sone stuttering, not as much as some of you are describing. Definately a GPU issue, game runs (relatively) fine at ultra low settings.

I used to play Beamng.drive on my crappy acer laptop. I had issues with lag on the bigger maps but this was brought on by my computer's integrated GPU. Now I have a desktop computer with a good GPU and an intel i5 clocking at 3.2 ghz. On my acer, I got 20-30 fps when driving on the plain grid and less on the more complicated maps. With my new machine I get 30 when standing still on the grid, and when I try to move, my fps drops to about 2 or 3. WTF! I have the CPU and GPU to run the game, so why can't I run it? If it helps, when I pause the physics, I get roughly 255 fps.

255FPS seems not possible since the game is capped at 60FPS.
Can you check if your CPU is overheating for any reason (and if it's keeping it's clock speed or it drops to something very low)

The CPU stays at normal temp. I also discovered that if I turn the wheel all the way right or left the game runs at >60 fps, but if I start to turn it back, I get 3-4 FPS again. WTF?
