I never found out why this map was being 'deprecated' and that Jungle Rock Island is replacing it. The two maps are very different; why not leave both in - keeps variety to the new consumer and others. I just don't understand why you, the devs, would want to get rid of a map that is of good quality and is the one that started it all. Food for thought.
I believe DRI will be kept and in the repository when it arrives. I don't think the level is getting killed off.
Are you kidding me? On DRI I get around 35-40FPS. On JRI I get around 15-20FPS. There is way to much mesh on JRI...
I had the same experience, 45 on med settings on DRI, 40 on JRI on low settings, and 30 on med I'm wondering whether its related to amd vs intel, as they are very differently set up i'm running an AMD R9-M265x (with an I7-4710HQ)
DRI desperately needed optimisation and work done to the roads since it was by far the worst performing map in the game. Work began on fixing both issues but at some point it became clear that if so much work was going into improving it I may as well go ahead and give it a clear design and theme while I was at it since it would involve almost the same amount of work. You can see the design process above. You've got to remember, DRI is the oldest map in the game; it's been through the engine change from CryEngine and was built piece by piece (originally it only had the central industrial complex (I think it was called "Abandoned Industrial Site" in CE since that's all it was; 500m x 500m industrial area). It was also made before we fully understood T3d. It was a hastily put together stage to show off the vehicles and physics. So now DRI is called JRI and is quite different than the old version which is why we'll be putting the old version up on the repo for anyone who wants it.
Thank you for the explanation Hutch. As I was reading I felt a little twinge of sadness that such an epic first experience with BeamNG would fade into the sunset. Having it in the repo is a fitting Hall of Fame wall to hang this grand daddy map for all to see and play.
I thought dry rock island was perfectly fine. When I heard they were gettin rid of it, I made a copy of the zip folder in my documents.
Hayhayhayhay wait wait wait, what about my BeamNG travel mug and the nightlight? fade into sunset? hanging in hall of fame? You are experiencing an automobile accident sir. I'll get my BeamNG coffee cup and nightlite if I have to make them myself, maybe even DRI collectibles and everyone will want one.
the difference between dry and jungle is dry had some nice open areas where one could go 4x4 off roading. jungle is an impenetrable forest, you have to stick to the roads, mostly.
