I can't get mine in all the way. Stupid MSI mobo.
It works though so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

 

I swear to God 20/24 pin connectors hate me. On older systems, it's just jammed in there. On newer ones, I don't have to use my whole body's weight to take it off, barely. They all suck, but a Molex on a 15+ year old system is the worst.

 

Molex in general is the worst. I tried to take mine out for my powered USB, I almost broke the plug.

 

Well, taking a Molex out of a hard drive with the plugs facing a sharp heatsink or two scares you before you even take it out.

 

I usually don't mind molex, but when I'm trying to unplug something in a cramped space and then my hand shoots back into whatevers behind it...

 

I was broadcasting to 3 people at once, although I got terrible FPS, it worked.

 

i can do it at 60 fps but the quality is bad for somereason

 

I have probably lost about a litre of blood to cutting my hands and wrists on crappy stamped metal cases with edges sharper than a butcher's knife. Doesn't help that they're dirty and filled with dust, and the cables' plastic connectors have hardened with time.

One time I managed to impale my hand on the edge of a hard drive cage in an old dell server rig. Still have the scar.

 

That's why I always buy prebuit Dell PC's. They don't try to kill me

 

Precisely the opposite. I work with Dell pre-built PCs and they have among the worst cases in the world, safety wise. If you want to exchange a hard drive, put on gloves. Seriously.

in my last post I even said I impaled my hand whilst working on a dell computer.

 

Ok, does anybody smarter than me know what any of this means?

SLRR, pretty heavily modded, never had a problem until now. It was so sudden.

 

Unless if it's a laptop, so much loctite on the screws it isn't funny, if they are there. Mine was missing a screw from the factory, and I can't seem to get the upgrade bay door screw off to save my life.

 

I have a dell laptop here next to me, and if I wanted to change the HDD, I'd have to completely disassemble the entire laptop, because the HDD is above the motherboard, under the keyboard.

That's something even Apple wouldn't do.

Maybe I'm just sour about Dell after working with 'em for so long, just like a seasoned mechanic grows to hate certain brands, but whatever. Still some bad design choices.

A drill

Yes. I simply found a 2mm drillbit and drilled a ruddy hole straight through the screw. It shattered. It came out. Magnet cleared up the mess quite nicely.

 

I don't want to have to do that though, although I have a spare screw for that hole, just don't want to drill.

 

tried the alternate approach? Many many adapters in a socket set until you can fit hex bits in it. Done that before. Huge socket set for a philips head screw driver

 

I like working on Dell Precisions and a lot of the older Latitudes. (Think Core 2-first gen Core i) The only time I've had to drill a screw on one of these is when the screw for the Wifi chip in my E4300 was on ungodly tight. I drilled it out a bit and then hammered in a small flathead until I could take it out.

 

Lol I was actually going to bring up molex connecters as well, those things suck and I'm so glad that most things use SATA now. I was in my old Alienware the other day and everything was run by molex, such a pain. Really hate when you cant get the dang pins to line up right in those plugs. Only thing in my current PC with molex is the fan controller.
The Alienware also had ribbon connectors for data, love how easy those things were to work with but my god they take up some room.
I remember when I had that thing built I sprung for the PhysX card thinking it was going to be the wave of the future, blew my mind playing the little demo that came with it where you drop a ball or something on a bunch of blocks and they'd scatter pretty realistically. Amazing how much has changed in about 10 years, that thing is a glorified typewriter now.

 

Finished my first PS2 slim mod. Put the wireless controller adapter and 128MB memory card inside so now it's clean on the outside.
