This is really stupid. Why haven´t you let it be as it was. Everything was perfect, everyone was satisfied. Now we all have to move the documents folder (at least the ones who have separate C:/ partition). This is NOT OK

You can still install mods into the game's folder in your Steam folder. And it takes 1 minute to move Documents out of C: into a drive that has space. We aren't here to help you manage your hard drive space. We're here to make a game.

I dont understand. I can´t install the mods to my game folder anymore because the game wouldnt recognize them. I now have moved my Documents folder from my little SSD to an old Hard Drive. Thanks again for that. And no, i dont wanna sound rude, but changing this without making a possibiliy to choose the folder in game is not really what makes me giddy with pleasue.

And yes you are rude when you basically say #dealwithit

You can move the BNG documents folder to where ever you want by changing the path in the startup.ini file, which is found in your BNG install folder (steam\steamapps\common\BeamNG.drive).

    [filesystem]
; This determines where the User path is.
; This is by default or when empty below "My Documents\BeamNG.drive"
    UserPath =

    ; example for using e:\beamng-user
    ;UserPath = e:\beamng-user

; example for using a relative path to this folder
    ;UserPath = \user

I cannot for the life of me understand how to install map mods since this update. I can install vehicles no problem, and I've installed the Ultimate Test Terrain, but when I try to play other map mods it just hangs on the loading screen. Any help?

The mods are probably not made correctly for the current version (missing .DAEs). A lot of mod authors did not include the .DAE, only the cached mesh file (which we've changed the format of), so they're not going to work anymore unless the mod author fixes it.

Oh that's a real shame. Hopefully some of those mod authors might be able to go back and fix their work.

Yeah, this is a bit of a pain in the butt, just saying.

Just spent a couple hours trying to get the old mods to function properly, reading this thread, re-reading, zipping, making folders, moving files, etc..

... after hours of forum searching and post reading ...

    Akron-Motor-Speedway-(Oval-Circuit) - NINJAHOBNOB

    DING!

After reading that, I've managed to get most of the mod maps working, but this "map name/folder name" not matching loading issue is really annoying as it is not that simple.

Grid2 map, for instance, everything within the folder had to be renamed to reflect the map name 'Grid2'.

    This-is-how-to-fix-grey-screen

I made a thread for this so people don't have to look all over the place.
Sense this is a somewhat big problem for some people, I think a dev should make the thread I linked sticky so everyone can see it.

Here is a workaround that works well for me.

Like most, I don't like to have mod files killin space/fragmentin on my main OS drive/partition.

Link Shell Extension to the rescue, it's quite easy to use & very useful to have folders/files where you want.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The method: Tested On Win 7 x64 Ultimate 7601 SP1

    1. Download/Install - Link Shell Extension - http://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/linkshellextension.html

    2. Move this folder, "X:\Users\YourUsername\Documents\BeamNG.drive" to a new drive and or partition.

NOTE: X = the OS drive letter.

    3. When the above folder has been moved to the desired location, go back to "X:\Users\YourUsername\Documents" and create a folder named "BeamNG.drive"

    4. Now go back to where the "moved" BeamNG.drive folder is located and open the folder.
Here, there are multiple folders, etc. Select everything and right click/Pick Link Source.

    5. Open "X:\Users\YourUsername\Documents\BeamNG.drive and simply right click/Drop As... Symbolic Link.

    Done.

    Tip:

Link Shell Extension works for most any folder/file, no matter the location but there is a condition, see below.

It's important to Honor the "root" App/Game folder.

For instance, notice the "BeamNG.drive" folder was recreated because the Symbolic Link(s) needs a folder.

You can quite easily do the same from command prompt. I'm on phone right now but I can document the way to do it without extra downloads later.

The above is a good method for those with no idea what the command prompt is though.

I followed the steps of putting zipped mod files into the \BeamNG\Mods folder. The only ones that worked were the propane tank, B25 Mitchell, and the Gavril D-Series mod by AR162b. Is the correct conclusion to draw from this that all the other mods were incompatible or broken?

Did you actually read the first page of posts on this thread before posting this question? Sorry if I sound rude but, I found some steps in posts #5 and #12, at least. Now, if that didn't work for you, that's a different issue. :)

(please notice: you can click the post links above to take you directly to the post!)

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but, I for one have all of my map mods (which all work perfectly fine) and vehicle mods, however all of my vehicle mods are labeled as 'unknown.' As such, I can not accurately browse my vehicle mods.. I would like to know if there is a fix to this bug yet..

From what I heard they are working on a update for "Legacy" mods. So I would say be patient

If you installed the in 'Steam / Steamapps / common / BeamNG.Drive' then it's normal. Mods don't go in there, and the game will move them away to prevent them to break something.

This is the current correct way to install mods (Not all mods install the same way, so read it carefully, it explains exactly how to handle old and new mods)

Even if I have my mods in My Documents, you guys made the game so it removes my mods and puts them into a backup folder. Why?
