I, along with probably many other BeamNG.drive members, have decent machines but don't have a ridiculous graphics card. I have an Intel HD Graphics 4000.
It runs well on every map...except for Dry Rock Island, Jungle Rock Island, and Hirochi Raceway. (East Coast actually runs decently)
    Why? Trees. Everywhere.

Turning down mesh and textures takes away from the car and roads, and makes trees disappear.
I'm not saying have an option to make them disappear, cause that's just F11 -> Vegetation -> Deleted.
Deleting the trees completely makes the map look empty...so I'd like to avoid that :p
I'm saying a way to make the trees less graphics intense. My PC runs Small Island just fine, but Jungle Rock Island is a nightmare due to the tree graphics.

If there could be a setting to turn down tree resolutions, graphics, something, it would let many more people be able to enjoy more maps.

Or just make more maps without so many trees (Small Island is awesome.)

Post how you feel below

I suggest to just stay away from those maps.

Eh I end up just flooring my settings to lowest and dealing with it for a little while, but generally I do stay away as they are lag pits.
I just still think the map should be playable and trees shouldn't be the thing killing fps.

I like the idea of vegetation settings. Upgrading computers isnt an option for everybody, and i think one of the biggest fps killers (graphics wise) is the vegetation like grass, trees and bushes. Maybe an option to remove them from maps would be helpful for a lot of people. Personally, i stay away from low fps maps most of the time, but i'd like to be able to play on them more often. I generally just delete the forests and ground cover from the level editor

I wonder if the removing vegetation idea could be accomplished by removing the .forest file from the level. Have a script that moves it to another location until settings are adjusted again.

You can always go to the visibility options in the editor and hide "theForest". That way the map isn't altered but the trees are gone.

However, I think the solution is not to reduce the lushness of the maps; instead, optimize the graphics engine. My laptop with Intel HD 4600 can run DiRT 3 in the Finland map (lots of trees) just fine, so it's possible to improve performance without removing trees

You can go into F11 and delete "Vegetation" to reduce lag, but it takes so much away from maps and makes them feel empty. I just wish there was a "Lowest - Low - Normal - High" setting slider for vegetation graphics.
Because at this point I have an Acer Veriton and I bring it back and forth and its about as big as my hand on the side. It's tiny tiny tiny. I can't upgrade anything atm, I'd have to build my own PC. Not an option rn until I get the money.

I know this may not help with low end machines but have you tried turning mesh quality down to low/lowest as it can be a huge performance impact on vegetation populated maps.

I find it helpful to go to the world edit menu, then go to The Forest in the objext bar on the right hand side, and click " Rendering Enabled " and turn it off. It seems to boost my frames by about 5-10. Hope this helps!

My phone really does not want that picture to be below the quote... =(

The game has been optimized a lot since this thread was written, there's a lot of sub-par machines that can run the game well enough.
