We changed the way the forum will work: Everyone (including guests) can view and download everything on here (except the game backup downloads). Locking down information like previously will only hinder the game to evolve and progress further and works against our principles of having everything as open, mod-able and user-friendly as possible. We want everyone to be able to enjoy the game to the fullest and also contribute to it if there is any interest. This change also cleaned up our forums a lot: Lots of duplicate forums were merged On the horizon: New website and new forum software, more info soon - stay tuned
Will copypasta "Less thing to care off (reuploads are totally useless for example), no more forum restrictions and probably less traffic headed to those sites we all know. Better for everybody." Yes, pirates gets access to that, but heh, you can't stop that. It's either there or those sites. At the end we all want people to just enjoy the game, and modders for people to enjoy their mods.
Is it now legal for non-owners of the game to release those "russian" mods in the showroom of BeamNG?
EDIT- Everybody is allowed to post mods. Mods for all and from all. Pirates are a thing that cannot be stopped. If they do some self-examination and they find out they have fun with BeamNG, they would hopefully do the right thing and support the development by purchasing the game.
http://www.beamng.com/threads/2054-BeamNG-drive-Alpha-test-Backup-only-download Backup download is removed for now.
If I can relay my opinion, I don't like this idea. On paper, giving people access to ALL mods here sounds like a great idea for people to change their minds and buck up and buy the game. This is a utopian concept that will not go as far as you guys are intending. Now, it's just as easy, if not easier to pirate the game and now especially with all the mods, the OFFICIAL mods available, those thinking about pirating the game have even more incentive because now they have a game which they got for free and any extra content in mods have great quality and they are going to be ultimately supported regardless. In that light, it kind of makes buying the game look stupid. (Thinking as a pirate) but why would it make sense to buy the game? Currently, there are NO locked features, the torrents (I presume) update with the game releases, also, you gave access to the backup download - the official game in .7z's, albeit locked to purchasers, - it takes one guy who bought the game to download all those and then the game is out there. Pirates are not looking into and appreciating the work all of the devs and us mod makers have done. They're just looking for that quick fix of fun that they can get for free and now with excellent quality mods - all of which will be assumed to be unappreciated because they did not pay the money for the game. I am not looking forward to comments and suggestions on mods from people who didn't buy the game (presumably pirates). I don't want "people enjoying [my] mods" for those who did not buy the game. Terrible idea IMO lads...terrible idea. I understand that you want to diminish traffic on the third-party mod sites but this, this is highway robbery on yourselves.
whoa, strong opinions in here We can never completely get rid of piracy. The ingame vehicle thing will have some checks, i wouldn't worry too much right now
It doesn't take long for people to keep an old version when they realize their mods won't work in a newer version. Unless of course you force something in the mod's structure or file that renders older mods obsolete. (I presume you're talking about some sort of login in-game with "ingame vehicle thing")
Nadeox is right, pirates either can't afford the game in the first place and will put in the effort to manually get updates and mods off external sites or they are trying out the game and are likely to buy once they realize the benefits of ownership, like being the first to get new updates. This will help keep mods on the forums and only the forums, which brings better support to mod creators and the community as a whole.
