Higher than will not work, it *must* be equal. To avoid issues, the notch is in a different location in each DDR generation. DDR2 ram will not fit a DDR3 machine, and even if an adapter was made it would not work. Although with the ages of these machines both are likely DDR2 and will function. Clock speeds supported in theory need to be higher or equal on the asus, but these were pretty shitty laptops when new, they wont be running insane clocks and usually a motherboard will simply run unsupported ram at lower clocks anyway. Should be fine to go.
Thanks, 2 gigs for a laptop arent even enough to play Team Fortress 2, I'll leave the laptop to cool down and then I'll change the RAM cards. Is it risky to do? (Damage the laptop if something goes wrong)
The only thing that could really happen is you don't insert the RAM properly and it fails to boot, but you shouldn't damage the laptop in the process, it's actually relatively difficult to do that.
It is pretty much pop the latches, card comes out. Stick in slot and click in properly, card goes in. Hard to mess up. Discharge any static from yourself first of course and dont place the ram on any conductive surfaces.
My desk is made of wood, so of course it wont be a problem, also because I always detach the battery, before opening the back lid.
My Core 2 Duo Vista Laptop sometimes does this. Try leaving it booting overnight or something, otherwise it's fried. Somehow, when doing basic office/image editing, it gets to 63+ degrees celsius, I feel your pain. Can't wait for my new rig next year. Desktops are much better and better value.
I moved back to Italy so I have no wifi here at the moment, but my friend does. So I am at my friends home and finally I can use Internet. I changed the RAM cards sucessfully and I had a big FPS difference in Minecraft during chunks loading. I do not know how to thank you, who helped me I'll build a desktop soon and I feel ready to do it now
