Same here, on boot my PC almost turns off and on 3 times really quickly, just enough to quieten the fans for half a second so not even fully off, then it boots up fine. Only happens with the OC on.
I forced my Update on my 200€ laptop tablet convertible thingy ( is tabtop a thing?) aswell. It sped up everything, including gaming speeds, and works pretty much flawlessly. Also it looks nice I definitely suggest it for low end devices like this: Intel Atom z3735f chipset 2 gigs of ram 32gb emmc ram (installing games on a sd card works perfecly fine) 1280x800 screen
Am I the only one having this issue?! Trying to open a picutre just crashes the picture preview program! I'm forced to right click and click on "edit" to view photo's. The windows comes up with a black box with a small picutre icon in the middle, then it just closes. Its also worth to mention that GeForce Experience wants to add a FPS counter to everything, even when I was upgrading, saying "We're just setting thing up for you" it had a FPS counter on the top right (20fps if you were wondering). Any ideas?
Does the same to me. I'm surprised it isn't throwing one on YouTube videos and such. But it is nice knowing that I get 1000+ FPS in an empty 3Ds MAX scene... I'll probably be upgrading to Win10 when I upgrade my HDD. 160GB drives are cool and all, but I'm running very low on space.
I just read an article on just how much data Windows 10 collects. It is supposed to be "clear" and "transparent", but it has around 23 pages of "small print". On the bright side, it is supposedly better optimized for CPU heavy games (Beam, Beam, Beam, I don't play any other CPU reliant games). I might think about it when I get my new rig.
So apparently if you change your hardware at all your PC becomes a different system and Win 10 deactivates. I'm tempted to do something like pull a GPU out just to see if it does that.
There go my dreams of a 970 :C --edit-- Couldn't I go back to Windows 8.1 and re- reserve my Win10 copy to get back to it that way?
Well that has been a thing in windows for quite a while. It was supposed to be tied to the motherboard i think but many people got deactivated over other things as well. It is the reason why you dont buy the OEM version of windows, but i still do anyway cause its cheaper. I guess the issue here is that i never anticipated that i would still be using almost the exact same rig with the same CPU 6.5 years down the line with an extra gpu slotted in and soundcard. So when i do change mobo i may have to rebuy a windows license anyway.
I'm having issues with the way it handles full screen window switching. When playing modded Arma it has a tendency to crash, not crash as in randomly disappear, but crash as in just hangs with a black screen. I am unable to close this with AltF4, attempting to get out of full screen (AltEnter) so I use AltTab to switch windows. This works in windows 7 and allowed you to access the task manager and force close the program, now however if i Ctrl+Alt+Del to click task manager it pops up, but i can't actually click it, it reverts to the Arma screen... which is unresponsive x| Does anybody know another way to close the full screened windows? The only way i was able to solve it was to restart the computer which is inconvenient. I would have expected it to force close programs after a certain time, but it did not.
The same thing happens to me with GTA SA. You have to move your mouse over the icon on the taskbar, wait until the preview window appears, move your mouse over it, wait until it gets big and then, once its big just click it. That worked for me atleast.
SuperN00b, nice to know you play GTA:SA too! I'm on my first no cheats playthrough on pc When I upgraded to Windows 10, I get this weird flicking going on the top half of my screen, really annoying and brings the experience out of the game, it goes away if I put the FPS limiter on but... who wants to play at 24FPS?
I didn't have any issues regarding my 4.2GHz overclock and Windows 10. (4.2 is pretty low for my CPU though.) My dad had to reset to stock speed on his PC to get it to not BSOD though.
I didn't even know there was an FPS limiter, but the game seems to be hard capped at 60 anyways, so it doesn't really matter.
Well, Windows 10 isn't for me. I did a clean install, because an upgrade wasn't possible on my crippled laptop, but windows never activated. I was told it activates from the motherboard, but it never did and now it's spamming me saying windows isn't activated. GG microsoft. Otherwise it seems like a waste of time; - I don't have a microsoft account, nor will I ever get one - I don't want to use OneDrive, I already have Google Drive, - I don't have an Xbox, nor will I ever get one - I don't want to use Edge, I already have chrome - I don't get why there's an appstore, that only sells mobile ports of games and basic tools; I have the internet for getting programs - I don't want tablet mode, as said computer is not a tablet - I don't want Bing, nobody does - I don't want Cortana, virtual assistants are a gimmick that never actually work. - I don't want a free trial of Office, give me the real deal or I'll just use LibreOffice - DX12 is cool but no games support it yet so at the end of the day it's essentially just a bloated Windows 7. I'll probably format today and install a fresh copy of Windows 7.
Of all the things you listed, though... 1. Optional, but has been in place since Windows 8. Not necessarily a problem specifically with 10. 2. Optional. 3. Optional, and can be removed entirely. 4. Optional 5. Optional, can be removed entirely. 6. Optional, and is a very good thing that integrates mobile more tightly with PC. 7. Optional. 8. Optional, barely contributes to bloat as it uses 70MB of RAM in its most intensive situation. 9. Optional, can be removed entirely. 10. DirectX12 is probably a bigger deal than 11. Just because games don't support it yet doesn't make it pointless.
You make some fair points but you do get some additional features like multiple work spaces. I think the main reason why Windows 10 was so well reviewed and received is because it came after Windows 8. Personally i think Windows 7 is my favorite so far but i can live with 10. The reason i like Windows 7 is because every tool and feature is provided to help the user, in Windows 10 a lot of the features are there to profit from the user and i dont like that especially from my operating system. But they can be mostly disabled (but most likely only to try and keep admins happy). I think i may buy two new 1TB hard drives. Then have one as a second disk for windows and have the other for linux. That way i can switch between as needed. If only i could dump the RAM to disk in order to switch between operating systems on the fly, that would be neat.
