I want to murder. A czech gaming portal Games.cz did a interview with the lead producer, Heden Blackman on GamesCom. At the very start, the wanted to point out that the game "Is goings its own way, but it wants to retain the most important aspects of the game: Detailed city and story." He doesn't have a fucking clue about the game, said to have never heard about it up to the point he was assigned with it, and that the played the first games AFTER THE DEVELOPMENT BEGAN. The vehicular model is same as in Mafia 2, to they have "customized it to their own likes, to make it more agressive, possibly too much"- so yeah, fucking arcade lanoire driving. The writers said that in the first half of the presentation (the nonpublic one) the vehicles acted like they did in mafia 2, they deformed nicely and didn't at all, and then turned arcade, explosions and cars powersliding and rolling over every fucking where. I just really hope that you will have the arcade/realism to turn on or off, otherwise fuck them. Then there is things and talks about interactive city, other stuff etc. but that is not interesting atm.
I think this could be a very nice game... as far as story, graphics and the fact that it takes place in 1968 New Orleans go. As far as the physics and some of the gameplay go though, I am not so sure. The driving physics look way too arcade like, especially when SEDANS can rollover from flat tires while traveling at high speeds and cars in general can blow up just from collisions; the gunplay looks fairly clunky too. On another topic I wonder if Mafia 4 is going to take place in the 1990s when one considers the rate at which they are progressing the timeline with each game.
the cars handled so well in mafia 2. they had good weight to them. The cars in the trailer seemed to have lost that weighty feel
I hope they give us options to do realistic or arcade, Mafia 2 vehicle physics were awesome I hope they didn't just "get up" and throw all that away, I watched that small little gameplay video on youtube and the vehicles seem to "arcady" to me..
Mafia 2 to 3 sounds like GTA 4 to 5. Tons of people were vocally against the arcadey physics of 5 (well, not that 4's were really sim either), but I was perfectly happy with it because it felt like a style shift for the game, and it made more sense in the context of the new area. I enjoyed GTA 4's physics in the context of GTA 4, and the same with 5 in its own context. I feel like I'm fine with however the handling is programmed as long as it makes relative sense to the game. In that sense I don't mind whichever direction they take with Mafia 3, because I know that the game developers know better than I do what makes sense when it comes to the context and "feel" of a game. If they feel that arcadey physics are more fitting like Rockstar did, then I don't see any reason to object to it because it must've made sense in their conscious decision to change it.
Blackman confirmed you can select realism/arcade driving modes. also a bunch of other stuff in the interview with IGN. (imported from here)
Just get it on PC, its like 2.99 in steam sales looks better and runs really well on basically anything.
Yep yep yep. Back when I had my 780, I could run it at around 1080p80FPS, or around 4K40. On my new GPU I get 4K60. Any game that can do that while looking like Mafia 2 does is very well optimised.
The new trailer for who ever didn't see it yet. Hopefully the driving option is true, where you can switch back and forth from "realistic" and "arcade".
