Hey guys, I don't know if there's already a thread or suggestion about this kind of thing, but I'm new here, so please don't beat me up about it if there is. Anyway, A few weeks ago my family and I were house hunting in rural Ohio, and since there is a lot of neighborhoods up here I had a good thought about a patio homes kind of neighborhood. Something where you could go and park in the garages or roam around in peoples lawns ( just kidding ) but I just thought that would be cool to make.
The East Coast USA map already has some nice neighborhoods, but I'd definitely love some more variety in them. They're among my most wanted things in new maps.
A suburb has long been sought after by many members of the community. ECA aside, we haven't really had any good ones. A while ago I created a few house models for chris_lucas for his suburb map: I still have the files, if anyone's interested.
Yeah, I did happen to come across those. That's proof I have a hard time looking for things when they're right in front of my face Anyway, I totally agree about the more laid out look, not all of the same kind of San-Fran look. It's not a bad thing by any means, just would like something a little more mixed up. Anyone heard of the original CarTown? Not really mixed up though, but CarTown was a cool map. - - - Updated - - - I know this is just the impatient me, but anyone have any ideas for the neighborhood? Just would'nt want this thread to go to waste. @Occam's Razer, Do you think we could add some brick/stone suburban garages to it to kind of kick in the patio home theme?
Perhaps, but I'm generally a bit busy. Or just lazy, haven't gotten around to figuring out which yet. We'll see. The greatest disdain for me with all of the suburb maps posted thus far, is that they seem far too ill-proportioned. Houses are fractions of a meter away from one another, and are located too close to the street to account for a curb, let alone a lawn. The houses I've shown off above were created from Google Street View images taken in a suburb due northwest of downtown Chicago*. It seemed to be a pretty photogenic neighborhood, so gathering the approximate proportions of yard space, driveway and sidewalk width, and the overall block structure would be about everything needed to make the spaces and locations seem real and immersive. *This is best for the uber-American styled suburb. Obviously the national origins of references should vary by map setting.
Completely Agree. Before we moved, my friend lived in a kind of housing development where homes could be built in almost a week, but everyone was in about three feet within each other. I guess to save space? They aren't always like that, It's just that specific neighborhood was close to everything, so everyone wanted to live there. Sorry for me rambling, back on topic. I found a few more cool model ideas, this one I like the best.
Don't want to be pushy, ( or double post, oops ) But can someone either: -Lock or close this thread -Tell me some more suggestions Thanks
