Honestly thats the wrong way to address multiplayer. I think the way to go with MP is basic position tracking, like how Torque3D handles a vehicles postion, as a single object/node (X, Y, Z coordinates, X, Y, Z rotation), plus basic vehicle and part config data. All the physics is done client side, its just simple coordinates that servers have to handle. If we can get that done, perhaps updating a other clients on your car's beam configuration (for others to see crash damage or whatrnot) about once every few seconds is not unreasonable. 500 nodes X,Y,Z position plus 2000 beams state seems reasonable across 5000ms.
The sounds of this game kills me... makes the engine feel gutless and slow, just feels like the engine sound is a place holder rather than an actual engine sound.
My opinion on multiplayer is that it won't happen. It is a highly detailed mode in any game, including game GTA or Call Of Duty. BeamNG probably never had plans of multiplayer in the first place. IMO, multiplayer is too complicated and would be too laggy to actually make. So, that being said, multiplayer will probably never happen. So, stop getting your hopes up people. The BeamNG developers are great, but pulling something like this off would be super hard.
Sounds. Sounds so bad.... Kinda like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTh1lHXDup4 and This https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjqKr5dWLgY Edit: They've set these "place-holders" for about 3 years now, it's definitely time for an update.
While I think we all do want sounds, I don't think the devs will listen to us if we protest about it like that.
I had no idea the community wanted better sound this much. Not only the sheer amount of votes, but there's a quite a few other threads that sprung up recently asking for the same thing. I wish we at least had an idea of where sound development is on the to-do list.
So have I. Never seen so much about sounds on this forum until recently! Maybe we can get some info out of them during the week. Realism isn't just good physics, it's the immersion of sounds and how well and balanced they are too. While it's a complex task, with the amount of growth I've seen this simulator/game go through in the past couple of months - it can definitely be done! I have faith in the development team on this one. Calling tdev and DrowsySam, you guys have any words on this atm?
I voted for multiplayer, it seems very unlikely and hard to implement and not to mention hardware intensive! I mean, without multiplayer, what was the point of that demolition derby map?
