Some of you may already heard of the new F2P game by Slightly Mad Studios called World of Speed. If you haven't, here's the trailer:

World of Speed runs on the same engine as Project CARS, so the graphics, sound, and weather effects should be pretty good. It does have arcade handling, though, so it may not please all sim-only players. In fact, some early gameplay sample videos showed a terrible handling model, even for arcade. However, Slightly Mad Studios has promised that they have overhauled the game after negative feedback; we'll see if they are telling the truth when closed beta testing starts. While the car list of Project CARS was rather thin, World of Speed will have most, if not all, of the road cars that were in Project CARS, as well as many others. (For example, if you pause at 0.42 in the trailer, you can see that there is a Bugatti Veyron, and later you can catch a glimpse of a Koenigsegg Regera) World of Speed looks pretty good, and as it is also free, I will definitely give it a try. Are any of you interested? Or do you think that it will fail like Need for Speed World?

Also, if you DO join their forums, consider joining my recently formed racing club: http://wos.my.com/forums/showthread.php?6037-Ye-Olde-Knights-Racing-Club&highlight=olde+knights
Mention (and be able to prove) that you are from the BeamNG forums, and you will be much more likely to be accepted.

Yes, I will. As an old Need For Speed World player, this is the game I shall be using to replace that. It looks rather good and although I prefer sims, I do enjoy some arcade racers, as long as the handling model is reasonably responsive. Hopefully the game is quite good. Does anyone have any ideas of release dates of open beta's, full releases ectetera?

I will play WoS if it ever comes out. Feels like I've been waiting for the beta for about 3 years now, is there any definitive date yet?

SMS has promised that closed beta testing will begin in the second half of 2015. They still hope to release the final game by the end of 2015.

*Update* I recently opened my racing club to Junior Members of the World of Speed forum, so feel free to apply. You will probably be accepted.

Thank you for bumping this thread, actually.
Thanks to you I've discovered that this game even exists and made an account.
You are the only person that has actually done something good by bumping a thread IIRC, so thank you!

Yeah...The worst part is that the dev team has been silent for some time now. WoS really makes me appreciate the involvement of the BeamNG devs. However, there's been no new contest this week, so that may mean that they're gearing up for an announcment. (ie. CBT start or another delay)
Accepted ;)

I guess I'm around now. I kinda miss NFS world, though it got crappy at the end. I loved the old Slightly Mad (that made shift and shift 2) but their more recent games seem "meh"

People who are that desperate to play NFS World offline after it's been shut down may need to consult their doctor.

Edit:
Here's something interesting: http://wos.my.com/forums/showthread.php?6251-Alpha-Footage
It's some footage from the Russian Alpha tests of WoS. (Many things, including the physics have changed, though)
I do find it quite annoying that the Alpha tests are being done in Russia, which is basically hacker central. However, they may be trying a 'set a thief to catch a thief' method to find out how to block hackers.

How will the whole MMO racing system of WoS work, obviosuly nfsw was a freeroam system with races as well, will WoS have freeroam in certain areas, or will it be more like Auto Club Revolution's system for MMO racing?

World of Speed is gonna have a free roam called the Airfield Playground. It will include an obstacle course, some jumps, a runway to test your cars' top speeds, a hill climb, and some great picture-taking spots. However, it won't be an open world game. The main focus will be on track racing.
