Right now the map isn't in a state to even test properly. I have a lot of things to figure out yet. I'll pull it out of "on hold" and update it there.
Thanks Aboroath, it's a great map! Great atmosphere, fast sections, technical corners with height differences (love those) and some great off-road options
Thanks AR! The height differences are totally unrealistic as someone mentioned awhile back ( U.S. grade max ), but this is Baja Hills, not the U.S.
I'm currently adding needed additional traffic signage and I think some 'civilization' in some capacity will get put in. Originally I had intended much more in the way of buildings but I just wanted to get the thing released. I want a time attack for this map bad and I'm looking into that. The current scenario scheme appears to be quite finicky and limited and I have yet to fully comprehend various tutorials. - - - Updated - - - Thank you! Framerates on the map do not appear to be an issue so far so your new machine should run it at max settings no problem.
What a beautiful map I do have one complaint (or rather something to think about). From a realism point of view the corners are very badly engineered, they are way too sharp and lack some rounding. Look at this picture: (imported from here) In reality those corners would never exist in such a way. Other than that, a really great map.
Thanks for the feedback! The roadway placement on my end is a WIP and I intend on improving the realism going forward. I'm still getting the hang of World Machine in this respect and for some reason the decal roads in this map are not as good as others I've done. I was kind of rushing to get it out. The engineering aspect is firmly rooted in World Machine and that is where my focus will continue to be.
Otherwise it's a good map, but I also think the road design needs work. All those blind corners on hill crests ruin the driving flow. Another thing for your next maps, try to avoid roads near the edge of the map, unless there is something to block the view. Seeing the edge breaks immersion. The surrounding scenery helps, though it would be better if it matched the edge of the map closer.
Thanks for the feedback Muria and duly noted! I was fascinated with the vertigo of the distant terrain and it was a happy accident. It's a lovely and cool backdrop but certainly future maps will need their own custom distant terrain. I'm still guessing as to how these are made but I assume it's a mesh in Blender brought in from World Machine etc. with it's macro applied as a texture?
Great map, the colors and lighting look quite unique. The corners are a bit overly difficult as mentioned but I quite like the warning signage.
Really great map , the main problem isn't the road , it's just we like drive too fast It's very fun to don't realy know before how the curve end , it's a part of the risk when you drive fast !
I like this post. Finding a good balance between realism and "arcade" if you will, is probably what most counts I guess. This is my first map and as I was laying down the roads paying attention to exact engineering principles was not high on my priority list. Just getting the process figured out reasonably well was. There were many times I could have not put in the tedious effort to make a road a bit more realistic, this thing could have looked like a Disney ride and completely off the wall. I appreciate the feedback on the roads immensely, no matter what it is. Having the devs chime in is awesome and reminds me what I'm making a map for...a driving simulator that crashes REALLY well. - - - Updated - - - Nice video! Fun to watch how people handle the roads and also look for improvements. - - - Updated - - - Warning signage....indeed.
Great map, really nice road and it looks amazing as well! I have an issue, though. Sometimes when I spawn another vehicle, it just doesn't do it. Instead the camera gets teleported about 200m off the spawning point, near a metal beam in a hill as the image below shows. It doesn't happen everytime, but it seems more frequent when I select a mod, like the Pessima Tuner by nahuelito007 or some of AR126B mods, although some parts conifgurations seem to work better than other. Possibly some conflicting mods? I deleted, dowloaded again, cleared the cache and put the zip back in the mods folder, still the same issue
Thanks and glad you like it. That is weird. Wracking my brain as to a cause but I will try to replicate it.
This has actually happened to me at Baja Hills and other maps. So it might not be Baja Hills but the game itself.
