I figured I'd start a thread about good (sometimes) driving roads. Anyone have roads nearby that you'd like to share? (Getting late here, so I won't post one now).
KY State Route 18 is a pretty nice road to drive in my opinion, it goes from light city streats with a 40MPH limit, to a busy intersection area, to a hill with 55, to another long stretch and then you pass through down town Burlington KY to more country roads which are moderate, until you reach a sharp turn that goes down to a road with a speed limit of 55 and that is very curvy and a little hilly and they "fixed" it by doing a horrible patch job that makes it a very fun rough ride. (Fun road to drive in dry weather in a truck or SUV or car that can take it.) After that it settles out a bit to more country backroads, I don't know where it goes past that because I havn't been that far, but I drive it regularly and it is fun to drive, especially the country part. There are others but I can't think of them at the moment, but I'll post them when I think of them.
I really like driving Scenic Drive out towards Quaint City. It's a relatively straight and flat 2 lane road that starts here in the heart of suburbia and then ends up out in the sticks. The road itself isn't anything special, but the scenery is. It's interesting to see it go from lots of large neighborhoods to small neighborhoods blotted with unfinished developments abandoned at the start of the recession, and then eventually to just wooded/farm land. Also plenty of places to do dumb stuff.
I hate Texas roads, the ones with all the fun curves are filled with potholes and patches, and if they aren't they are really short. And I don't like driving my car anyway.
Lime Creek Road is undoubtedly my favorite road in the Austin area, and it's very close to where I live. Nameless Road is a close second, even though it's fifteen minutes away. Almost every road around Lake Travis is fantastic, especially true around dusk or during light traffic hours.
Forgot about Nameless. Only driven on it once, it takes my 15 minutes to get there. I'll have to try going on Lime Creek on my way back From Cars & Coffee.
