Hello ! I'm french, and in france it's easy to find some old french car (Peugeot 403-404, renault 6 ...) for 500€ to restore. But it's very hard to find old muscle car, old american car (Camaro,mustang...), you can't find this style of car for less of 2000 € I want to know if in U.S.A its the reverse : It's easy to find old muscle car and hard to find old french car ? Thanks for your answer !
It depends on what area of the US you're in, I'm sure. Where I'm at muscle cars are VERY easy to find, in all sorts of conditions. Most of the ones that go for cheap are in pretty poor condition with lots of rust and holes, however sometimes you can find some pretty decent ones for a good price. Most old Camaros and Mustangs (60s-70s) are expensive even in bad shape, ones from the 80s-90s however can be found cheap. French cars where I am are RARE, I don't think I've ever seen one in person here to be honest.
I believe that in the Midwest, (the base of Chrysler, GM, and Ford), muscle cars are pretty easy to find. However, to get a classic 1960's model in good condition, you still have to pay a decent amount of money. You can get a lot of old 90's muscle cars for very low prices, even when they are in near-pristine condition. And to answer your second question: I've never seen a French car in the US. I don't think they're imported here., except privately.
Some Peugeots and Citroens were imported into US in the 80's, but they had to ve deeply customised. Wasn't worth it, so just a few hundered of them ended imported. Rare as hell indeed.
I can only speak for Canada, but here cars dissolve in rust with the winters we have, there are no cars on the street older than 2005. Unfortunately this means we don't have classic american cars, imported European cars OR Japanese imports. The only cars you can find here for under $2000 are rusted out Chevy Cavaliers or abused Hyundai Accents.
Yeah, rural midwest here. You can find vehicles back to the forties or fifties, but if you want anything that's well preserved, it'll cost you. And I'll extend what has been said above; there aren't terribly many European cars in the US altogether. You'll see the occasional BMW, Land Rover, or Mini, but most passenger vehicles (95%+) on our roads are either American or Japanese/Korean. And I can't attest to ever seeing a French vehicle in person.
You don't see many French cars in the U.S. There are still a lot of 60's and 70's muscle cars but they are generally quite expensive. 2000 € which I believe is around $ 2200 won't really buy you that nice of a "muscle car" here in the mid west. I was able to score a nice original 85' Z28 Camaro for $1900 a while back but this car still needs 1-3 grand (even more if a shop did the work) to make it a good looking and reliable driver. And as far as $2200 on a 60's muscle car, its not gonna get you much, not around here anyway.
Think about it, older French cars were imported to the US yes but they didnt last out there for too long and went away, as for the dirt cheap muscle cars if it was really a badly broken up car in serious condition then its possible yes but it depends on the markets to be honest (just so you all know I am half asleep doing this post!)
Meanwhile, on the mild pacific coast in the lower mainland, there tends to be quite a few old american cars about. There's alot of car shows here as well. There's often days where I'll see many classic muscle cars and/or big old american boats from the 50's-60's-ish or whatever driving down the road to a car show. Once I saw some sort of Alpina BMW that looked like an M5 (not really sure what it was) and a Mercedes SLR Mclaren behind it. I even saw two Bugatti Veyron's driving together once... We also have quite a few Japanese imports here. Unfortunately, most of them are completely riced... My friend and I were looking at imported Toyota Previa's on craigslist a little while ago. As for French cars... Very rare here, but I have seen one of those really old classic Citroen's a few times. (closest model I found to it was the 2CV. It might have been that one, not really sure.)
Hello , i'm french and i used to go to usa to buy car , i can tell you that the car market become the same thant to internet , for the most of the muscle car the price will be the same , depends of the number of parts you need !! You can see some french car in california , one chance on one million ( i have see a georgous Citroen SM near Santa Barbara , that is a rare car in France too !) , and here in france , my everyday car is a chevy Tahoe and it's super rare in France not in US lol
I'm in the Rural midwest here too. American muscle cars are around, you'll pay $3000 and up for a complete runner you wont find many muscle cars cheaper than that. unless it's just a rusted and stripped down shell. Of course if you knoe other people who collect them you can get better deals.
In CT there's plenty of restored cars/cars for restoration on Craigslist and you can see them rolling around sometimes in the summer. (Mainly on the first hot weekend of the year, classics and motorcycles everywhere.) I definitely have one of the oldest cars being dailied around here, and probably the rustiest. EDIT: Didn't realize this was a bumped thread.
YOU DRIVE A TAHOE IN FRANCE? When I was there the biggest car I saw was an imported dodge Dakota. How do you manage? Well, at least it's not a suburban lol.
The main issue it's doesn't fit in my garage , my poor Tahoe spend the winter outside but the AWD work perfectly (here i've helped a friend who have an accident with his cherokee , the 5.7 help a lot !)
I love so much the tahoe I'm so sad they didin't sell them in france, the last one is so pretty ! (And so expensive ^^) I think the only "American" kind of suv / 4x4 you can get in France is the Jeep Wrangler ...
