Casually browsing PCPP when suddenly https://pcpartpicker.com/b/bw4CmG > $1066 > R7 265 > FX 6350 Why.
My computer just ran in slow motion... Not actually slow or anything: mouse response, frame rate, performance and everything was fine. It was just that everything timed (window opening animations, cursor blinking, keyboard repeat rate and so on) ran at perfectly smooth half speed. Never had that happen before, no idea what could possibly cause it and rebooting fixed it.
Now, I plan to upgrade my PC for xmas (or my birthday in march). My specs are in my desc, but I also need to ask, how many ports does a typical mobo have for storage? I have no idea what mine has I have a 120gb ssd that I'm replacing with a 240gb one (Anyone want to buy?), and I'm adding a 3.0TB HDD to my rig ,so I'll have 5TB in total (Holy shit!!) I also took the suggestion of getting a k70, but for $20 more I could get 18 G keys, I see computer parts as an investment, not a one time use thing, so I tend to go all out. Here is the brands of what I'm getting.
Aerocool PSUs are tier 4 in this list: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html
Which reminds me, I need to get a PSU that is not a fire hazard, because I think the only reason mine is still working is because it's only at 50% load. I should get something like an RM750i. Might buy one.
Speaking of PSUs, the one in my PC is a cheap af 350W no-brand chinese one. Should I get a new one for safety reasons or will it be fine?
My Dell XPS 8500 mother board already has four, so I guess that's kind of normal. It's a standard Dell MoBo.
4 on mini ITX and OEM. Usually at least 6, occasionally more. Always option of PCI SATA controllers (which can outperform the onboard one anyway).
Quite a few years ago in my noob days my unbranded 600w PSU exploded in my system taking out everything but the GPU and CPU. It was also a massive hazard and shocked me really hard one time even though it was 2 DAYS after removing it. So yeah. Change it.
Okay, I guess I'll go for the 650W Corsair PSU bluescreen recommended me once. I'd rather spend money on that then have my PC explode and our house burn down.
That corsair has pretty poor software, if you want smooth colour changes you cant have 16.8m colour scale but if you want nice and lively colours you cant have smooth effects. I have k65 and it has same thing and corsair cant and wont fix it. But if you don't care about those then its great keyboard to use ! Edit: Heres link to you to read more about it :http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=140249
only 50%? Hmm, I have no idea what my PSU brand is, but it'll be on its peak while gaming, its only 400w, I know, I know, I need to change it, why do you think I have a new psu on the list! The lights were a selling point for me, I've never had a keyboard with backlighting on it, or ever used one for that matter, but regardless of how bad the software it, from what I've seen, it still looks really cool and its better than no backlight, so I might as well still go with it. But thanks for bringing that up anyways
I have a 700W Thermaltake, it's not a no-brand, but it's not even 80+ certified, far from ideal for an overclocked system often running near peak load, even if power draw is around 400W max.
So, the little frag-box of legacy hardware has decided that it's going to be a pain in the ass. What a monumental heap of junk I've put together. I'm useless.
This thing has a personality. Because it's running fine and installing updates right now. And as I say that, one update fails to install. What a little sod. And you're right, this thing is pretty freaking useless. It's just to get my sister to Christmas where she'll get a beast of a machine.
