Hi Guys, I've done a pretty extensive search over the forum but not sure if this has been covered. I have an idea, what if we could spawn objects within the vehicle itself? For example.. Tissue boxes, loose objects like tools and shoes etc sitting in the back seat, suddenly a hard brake force would fling these things forwards possibly out of the car. Not only that, but a template could be saved of that particular setup (as in, a template of vehicle modifications as well as tissue boxes location in the car, where the shoes were placed etc.. Templates would be VERY useful so you wouldn't always have to spawn them again every time you have a crash. D: To aid in placement of these objects, a good way to do this would be to have a no-clip camera mode (freefly etc) and a spawn menu full of objects (much like how the Sandbox Editor works actually!). Placement of the objects could be "Rested" by temporarily allowing physics interactions and saving their locations (a lot like posing bodies and objects in the Sandbox editor, a.k.a resting a shovel against a fence, temporarily enabling physics to rest it so when the player walks past it doesn't just fall into a resting position during gameplay). I think this would certainly add to the realism because everyone has a spare tire and jack kit for example. Everyone has something in their car or glove box etc.. Especially useful when slowing down the timescale (slow-motion) with things flinging around the interior. I came up with this idea because I was recently in an accident where somebody hit the rear of my car (which is fixed now mwahaw) and I noticed a lot of objects had moved about in my car (notably my phone and wallet had fallen out of their compartment). Thoughts? All welcome!
That would make it allot cooler when in the first person view while having a big crash, just seeing a bunch of stuff flying around. It would be cool if they add it.
+1 Sounds pretty awesome! I can just imagine being chased by the police over curbs and off road, things bouncing around the back. An example of what you and I mean. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usg5N29erLU (edit - skip to about 30 seconds in)
I agree, this would be a great idea and certainly create more interesting debries in accidents. There's a video on YouTube of a Honda CR-V crashing at the Nurburgring which pretty much illustrates what OP says, papers and towels all fly out of the car in a rollover. In this case though I would like some basic Ragdoll's too to fulfil my need for destruction
Seems impossible to me. The vehicles interior doesn't have any collision as you would expect. The crashing/deforming structure of the car is made of a node/beam system, not the actual polygons that have a visual representation of the seats. To optimise the cars so it doesn't slow the game down, the last thing you want to do is include seats, parcel shelf, glovebox and other storage areas within the node/beam system. If it's not there in the node/beam system, I doubt it's possible to have collision for it... Sadly. I also don't really see the point in it :/
It should already be possible with the current physics system, but its likely to be more trouble creating it than its worth.
I also don't see any point in simulating of differet objects and luggage in the car. But I will be realy happy, if we be able to make simulation of all car interior parts with the N/B. So when a car crashes, the deshboard, seats, pedals and other stuff will break/move, it will add more realism.
I don't think small objects (like a tissue box or bags) are worth the effort. However, I do think that parts of the interior should be damageable. In rollover crashes, you typically see bits of the dashboard and the mirror flying around (see video). If you play in 1st person, I think this would make a great feature. Don't worry. The driver wasn't severely injured.
Had a thought and couldn't really tell in the videos but perhaps soft body scenery / objects could be a cool addition. By this I mean barrels bending and signs / lamp-posts. Instead of a GTA like game where you tap a lamp-post or sign and it falls down or a driv3r like game where you hit them and bounce back down the road you came from. You hit them and the bend around the front of the car. Only if they are hit hard enough the rip out of the ground. Let me know what you think. Here is the only example I could find. (excuse the dodgy music, unless of course you like that kind of music) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNOQYPLasRY&feature=related
It is certainly possible; we actually show a barrel and a street sign in one of the videos. We're not entirely sure how these will be done for the final game though.
It was in ror so I assumed it would. Also, those look like a 200k node/beam car. Can you guys match that pricision?
