My first car was a truck...2004 Chevy Silverado!! Thing was a beast and very reliable! I drove it up to 210,000 mile! no problems or leaks surprisingly!
Anything that wasn't a Cavalier? @Potato is right, Canada dissolves all the old cars and the new cars are too expensive. There's a first gen rusty Neon ON ITS SIDE out in a township outside the city, owner looking for $2200. The point being that you'll have to settle on a fairly recent import, like a 2005 Hyundai Accent or a 2007 Civic with a billion km on it if you want a car that runs for 1.5K. Be prepared for rust, and lots of rust.
I've had Canadian friends say that cars from the Southern part of the US were the best places in finding some cars cheap, given that they didn't turn out to be buckets and didn't spend most of their life close to the water, but as the person a few posts before me has said, getting the car up into Canada's the hard part that is if you're willing to drive or even bother pay to have it transported up there. One of them had scored a 92 Toyota Celica Turbo All-Trac with roughly 120k miles on it from Florida, that used to be owned by an old lady. She was selling it for about 4 grand, but he managed to haggle his way down to $3000-ish or so and drove the car all the way back up. But other then that, that's pretty much the "best" way in finding a cheap car that isn't rusty. But yeah, Like @randomshortguy has said any import's your best bet with your circumstances. My first car was a 98 Toyota 4Runner and it's been reliable for quite a while, just kinda regretted in selling it when I got the Lexus, but atleast I know a friend's bought it, so I can claim it back whenever I wanted...... jk.
Whatever you say. Get on craigslist (kajiji?) and look for yourself. I'm not even gonna bother suggesting buying a southern car because I know you won't.
Kijiji can have really great deals if you scan the same search everyday. I got a brand new pair of Turtle Beach X12's for $25
Toyota Camry. Toyota Carolla. Honda anything. Subaru Outback, Subaru Legacy, Forester. IMO American cars aren't worth it.
these cars are quite economical also when properly modified (no crappy body kits) they look MAAAD but then any hatchback is a good starter but please for the love of god don't rice your car please thank you. EDIT oh wait you said cars made in north America does that include cars assembled in the states?
Depends on what you like. If I were you, I'd try to get a used toyota, or a lexus but I doubt you'll find one for under 2k. Regardless, it'll last a long time and won't give you many problems. Also you can beat on it a little as long as you don't go too far.
Good luck finding a car for that price with no rust, especially in Canada, let alone find a half reliable car that will last more than 2 years. I bought my Acura RSX for 1250, but that was because it was a friend that sold it to me, and it has small amounts of rust, and it wasn't even driven in winter. Now, another thing I will suggest, if its your first car, get something that isn't perfect and has a tiny bit of rust. Guaranteed you will bang the car up a little even if you say you won't. I said that and ice caused me to slide at 2 KMH into a yellow post. Of course be picky a little bit, but guaranteed eventually your first car will end up with a small amount of dent's or such. I love my car, even with the damage it had when I bought it. BTW this photo isnt when I hit the post, it was there when I bought the car. Excuse the big screenshot.
It's very, very rare to find a good deal on a car that not only runs, but also is rust free, ESPECIALLY IN CANADA. I would know - the used car market in Canada is highly inflated and junkers that sell for $100 in the States sell for $1500 in Canada. You're going to have to look for an older import if you want something for under 2k that runs well without rust, and even then you will have trouble finding anything. I would know, I live in Canada and I have looked for rustfree cars on Kijiji and Autotrader, fact is they are very hard to come by, and usually are either much more expensive or have some other major problem with them
Any car in your budget in Canada is gonna be eaten up with rust. You're gonna have to buy something with a little bit of rust, at the very least. Like I said before, look for yourself. You think a car is just gonna show up in your lap? Do some independent thinking and decided what you want based on what you see on kajiji.
Okay sure, but here is my proof. http://www.kijiji.ca/b-cars-trucks/...type__sedan__wagon/c174l9004a138?price=__2000 That's a link for every car under $2,000 in Ontario. Find one that runs well and doesn't have rust. Ignore the leased cars, that's a monthly rate
Uhm, there's a Crown Vic for $1.5k. http://www.kijiji.ca/v-cars-trucks/...ic/1122206372?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true
