I spawn in the car, and go eat a sandwich. 10 minutes later I find my car is set ablaze. It has not moved from the spawn location, or been touched.

I have timed it to 1 minute, 40 seconds left alone for the DCT AWD race version.
Can others try replicate the results so I'm not crazy?

    1. Load in the "Moose Test" scenario.
    2. Start the scenario, don't move the car. After 8 seconds there will be a "You failed" message. Click "Freeroam"
    3. Don't move, or touch any controls. The fire should start after about 2 minutes.

Needs 1 minute and 40 seconds exactly.

Couldn't replicate, left it for about 20 minutes, no fire.

I parked it with the parking break on. Unless there was an update today I don't see how it could have been fixed.

I just spawned it and put the parking brake on. Will test again, this time with a little ride before parking.

Thats a bizarre bug I may have to do a 1 hour test sometime on this, it has to be something down to the code of the car itself that may cause it to burst into flames....hmm...

Well its not going to be father christmas is it now...

But yeah I can duplicate. Cant give a timespan for it to occur within, besides that about 10 minutes ago I went downstairs looking for more food, came back to burning car.

    Merry Christmas to you 6677

I am gonna run the 10 minute test now and watch it and nope definitely not Santa the only thing I could think of is it may be down in the code for the car somewhere I am unsure where because I dont read JBEAM....

Can't replicate. Left it for 15 minutes this time with parking brake on after a short drive.

Nah my point was that the error could only be in the cars JBeam, most likely an exhaust node placed too closely to the engine as these are what cause ignition in BeamNG.

Most likely I tried the 100 second test and no result for me...but your theory would hold up I am unsure if the code implemented at the minute would allow for heat transfer...I guess not since heat isnt an issue at the minute...

Jbeam isnt actually code. Its just a markup for node/beam locations and various other properties for the car.

At the moment. Nodes can have an ignitability and also a temperature. Engine nodes are hot, exhaust nodes are ignitable. Them colliding is what can cause fires on cars in BeamNG in the first place, its the entire basis of the fire system.

Ah okay so I would have to say with this analysis it would have to be linked to the exhaust system...somehow...

Alright, I got better instructions on how to replicate the bug.

    1. Load in the "Moose Test" scenario.
    2. Start the scenario, don't move the car. After 8 seconds there will be a "You failed" message. Click "Freeroam"
    3. Don't move, or touch any controls (you can move camera). The fire should start after about 2 minutes.

    Isn't it basically scripting?

Nope. Scripting is still code, and describes/determines execution. Markup describes data or layout. Jbeam describes the physical model of a vehicle, and is therefore a markup language.

    ^ What he said.

JSON, HTML, XML and CSS as some of the most common forms we come across, all lack any form of execution and are simply containers for data, in the case of HTML data to describe the layout of a webpage, CSS to describe a set of themes for a webpage, XML and JSON are both rather universal container types, JBeam is essentially using JSON to describe the positions of nodes and beams, facebook uses JSON updates in realtime to describe the contents of your news feed, a few 3d model formats (and other file formats too actually, i believe svg internally is stored as an XML schema) use XML to describe the vertices etc in your models.

    They're all markups and descriptions.

Scripting languages and true programming languages (of which I'd say there is little distinction these days besides a few intricacies in exactly how they're executed which most people have little care for) are very different. Lua would be the only scripting in BeamNG and typically javascript on the web.
