I will never understand data limited internet plans. $80/month for unlimited 50 down/5 up is what I have, and I praise it.
I have a unlimited internet plan with a somewhat decent speed. Weirdly, my computer seems to lock up here and there sometimes. It might lock up a lot one day and not on another. Although, everything works like it should.
Apparently I have a 300GB data cap. I never noticed until now because I was reminded this month when I had to install GTAV and a bunch of other games. Never understood why people don't like data caps, unless I download movies and watch a lot of streams I don't nearly run that high in terms of data.
My parents have unlimited 50down /5up courtesy of virgin media. Its the cheapest plan they offered. I have unlimited 100down/10 up in my student accomodation. This is per person, not for the entire flat of ~1000 people. Its rare that I don't get those speeds. The reason people hate data caps is because isp's have incredibly high profit margins. But they have to keep increasing those margins to keep shareholders happy. But when it is not possible to gain more customers they have to find a way to make more money out of the ones they already have. This is why in some countries the cost of internet is going up while the service being offered is getting worse due to data caps. These data caps do are put in place for no reason other than to try and force people to upgrade to a more expensive plan. For example phone contracts now cost more and offer less than they did 2 years ago. My grandfathered phone contract is now unobtainable on any carrier since I get unlimited data including 4g (if my phone could handle it) for £12.50 a month. While the internet ain't perfect in the UK I am hugely thankful that it isn't as bad as in Australia and many areas of America.
