Is this illegal?

Those are all mods stolen from the official Beamng.Drive forums, and this is only the first page. Is it illegal for sites like WorldOfMods to do this? They make money off of them because of the advertisements.

 

If they didn't ask the author, of course, but if they did, it isn't.

You made this whole website seem really shady just now but that's because you're misunderstanding. Users are voluntarily uploading their work onto this site whereas on worldoftrash, they're taking other peoples' work and not giving them credit. Users on here receive the full credit they deserve.

Do you have any solid receipts of users who stole a model, got away with it, and currently have "their" work hosted in the repository? The mods on here are very stringent with models from another source other than the user him/herself. Users always give credit to the original owner in their forum post, otherwise their mod is not allowed. The blockhead mod is from bugbear entertainment and the user stated such so like I don't know what ur talking ab.

 

Illegal is a strong word, but as far as morally its wrong. Im sure that maybe Miura could say something about it. But 1 copyright strike wont mean a whole lot to these sites. Long story short, get your mods from here. Its better in the long run and usually better quality.

I was referring to what you said about the mods here. It sounded hostile but maybe it's just me.

 

About Russian sites, I would say it's more unethical or dirty than illegal. Most mods clearly state to not reupload it and yet they do.
Why? Because they make money off of the work of others. The more mods they reupload, the more visitors see their ads (and click on the fake START DOWNLOAD" buttons all around).

At least they've started to credit the authors on there... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

 

Can't say it's illegal. We can copyright yes, but it's free content. You can't sue against free content. Our content we make is free. Also, the mods here are free, unfortunately, for anybody to download, regardless of if they purchased or not. They're not going to take down anything. They've been running for several years now; Russia is a different ballgame when it comes to internet rules lol. What happens in Russia...you know the rest

 

I mean like if ur justifying what worldoftrash is doing with our mods then be my guest and leave like no one likes the website or what they're doing but you seem to be all for defending them so like...

 

Most of the people on the forums are well aware of such repositories; they are highly frowned upon and are regarded as unethical by the vast majority of the community. My understanding is that despite this, the effort which would be required in taking methods to combat websites such as this would vastly outweigh the benefits and could possibly elicit negative publicity for the game.

 

Uploading content without permission or a license = copyright violation = illegal.

No, just because you credit the original author doesn't make it okay, and no, you're not allowed to rip models, let alone upload them.

Saying it's not illegal unless a takedown is requested is like saying that murder isn't illegal unless you get caught.

They are mods by chris_lucas. Also, please just don't download mods from those sites. They (sometimes) bundle viruses with """their""" mods.
