The ignorance of people on this forum is asinine. A 3d model of a car is illegal without permission of the car manufacturer. Obviously if you build the model yourself yiu didn't contact Cadillac pay them a fee and then proceed. Piracy rights do not include 3d models of real existent automobiles as proved in the above court case. 3d models are considered models like actual tangible models.

Sure I can create my own model, and sure millions of others can too. Grow up the forum users here are worse than 5 year olds with sharing toys.

And if you read the rules it says content you created. Content refers to an entire package, not one piece. They want people to recognize who original hbuilt the addon and not someone reposting it.

    Because it is ripping/thefting.

Well, someone builds up a car for himself for example, having it in his garage.
Now you come and take it to put it in your garage.
Is this a theft? It is. And with the models it's the same.

    That's not true at all.
You need their permission via. paying a fee IF YOU USE IT TO MAKE MONEY FROM IT.
What the modders do is build it and release it free.

Incorrect yet again. Most companies won't pursue an online community and many see it as free advertising. But the fact is you are recreating a copyrighted or patented design. Just like cutting vinyls of a car company logo. They'd rather shut an operation down than have free itmes eat into their margin.

To put it in your terms. Your neighbor builds replica Ford Mustangs in his garage and gives them away. If he only builds 2 or 3 Ford will overlook it. However if he begins to build and give away more he is eating into some sort of income they would get from copyright funds.

Doesn't matter if you give it away or sell it. Without their written permission you are breaking federal laws.

Why are we still discussion over it.

You can't use meshes that aren't your. Doesn't matter if you got permission, if it's legal or not. The Devs doesn't want them.
Learn how to model and make stuff yourself

    Stop discussing over it.
    I recal /thread again.

Guess what, the models from Forza and GTA are someone else's work. So, no, you CANNOT convert models from other games or they will figure it out and you will get banned. Not to mention just about every long time member will also keep their eyes peeled for mesh theft. (Also the meshes from other games are not designed for soft body physics and will look like crap when they deform as the polyflow is very often "sloppy.")

I feel this needs a lock.

Uploading those mods shouldn't be allowed, but giving the directions to port the models for people who already own the game should be fine IMO.

    How about: NO.

Since BeamNG is going (and is) commercialized, making even a cent of some other developer's work is against the law.

Also since Forza has name brand cars, making money off a designer's (at, say, Ford) work, which is against the law.

Also, pretty much all the rest of the forums have the same rules, however, since BeamNG is a new game, the rules are a little tighter.

Just learn how to model and you'll have just as much fun.:)

I forget where I read it but BeamNG can't get in trouble. They are simply providing a a game engine for users to use. It's like if Susie murders Sally with a Smith & Wesson M&P .40 cal pistol Susie is the guilty party not Smith & Wesson. Susie just used the pistol a way it wasn't meant to be used.

I just hate technology impeading advances instead of provoking them.

Technology doesn't impede advances, retarded lawmakers do. *coughdavidcameronsopapipaactadcmacough*
If only we could find a lawmaker who knew what he/she was talking about AND had enough command of his/her language of choice not to make his/her laws have more grey areas than a 1930s television picture.

You are not even listening. You keep trying to debate and find a workaround.
No is a no. Get over it, learn 3d modelling.

Inb4 another reply saying it's not illegal and etc.

If you want to convert content don't post about it on official forums, period, it's that simple. No one really cares (I challenge anyone to find anything about anyone being persecuted for any simple content ports), but the developers can't look like they condone it so it can't be done here.

The devs can't get in trouble for you doing it (they have no control over you personally), but they can't let you do it right here on these forums either (they DO have control over your actions here).

You do realize he straight up says he's porting the work, he never pretends that Forza's car models are his.

(something is broken in the quoting system? it broke your post up for some reason... and apparently I can't fix it either...)

We will not permit any content to be released here without express permission granted from copyright holders. Turn 10 is not going to grant permission for their Forza car models to be ported to other games, so we will not allow it here. The GTA modding community is a free-for-all anarchy and there are no official Rockstar forums in which people post stolen content, so it's not analogous.
