When i play BEAMNG drive, it has very low fps (feels like 10) on the lowest setting with collision activated. But when i deactivate collision it spikes to about 40 fps. What does this mean? It doesn't seem to be using even 20% of CPU (according to task manager) when collisions are on. It also only takes up upto 2GB ram.

    My specs are:
8gb ram, Win 10, Nvidia geforce gt 740m and intel icore 7 quad processor(2.2ghz). I am using a laptop.

Means your CPU is limiting performance. At 2.2ghz, you are clocked low, and in a laptop may even be thermal throttling causing it to underclock further.

Software can only use as much ram as it needs, cant take more.

20% is about normal for a hyper threaded quad core due to the threaded nature of the game

Edit: Apparently guys, my CPU is maxing out on 0.77-0.79 ghz (not even close to 2.2ghz). I've had a look and its a manufacturer issue, they have released an update to fix it and i'll come back and tell if it improves.

So yeah, its obvious that the game won't run on a clock speed that belongs to a time before y2k.

is 2.2ghz the turbo or the base clock speed, it seems that your laptop is overheating, the manafactures update probably tweaks the fan curves and cpu throttling

You should also ensure your windows power plan is set to high performance or it will never enter turbo, and in power saver may underclock more aggressively than usual.

It would appear that BeamNG.drive automatically sets your power plan to High Performance, then switches it back when you quit. :)
Mine got stuck in High Performance when BeamNG.drive crashed. I had to set it back manually then...

Hmm... I just opened the Power options and started the game. Mine definitely changes as soon as I open the game.

2.2 ghz is the base, 3.2 ghz is the turbo speed.

Its been on high perf for months now, and it still is.

Here is a link so that you can understand what sort of problem it is. They have released a bios update to fix it.

UPDATE: Apparently, the problem was different. I updated my battery firmware and now my processor is working at 2.2 ghz, and yes BEAMNG is running like butter on lowest graphics settings with collision ENABLED. Thanks guys, lots of things were fixed today, including my dead battery and snail processor, with a bios and battery firmware update.
