Hi I am wanting to have analog control over the clutch using a xbox controller like I did in RoR and older versions of beamng, since 0.4 or when the inputmap format was changed this no longer works.

The problem is when you setup thumbly as the clutch control, the entire movement is normalized, so instead of up being 1.0 and down being -1.0, up is 1 and down is 0 with the dead zone being 0.5...

Is there an option to change this behavior or is it impossible to have the clutch fully applied while steering?

The XBox One gamepad hardware does NOT report full steering + full clutch if they are in the same thumb stick. This is a problem of hardware/drivers.

I could maybe try to create a hack on BeamNG side, to try to compensate for this shortcoming of the Xbox One gamepad; but there is a huge pile of more important things to work on, and we are a very small team, so unfortunately I don't see this "hack" happening in the short term.

Yeah I know you can't have full clutch if the thumb stick needs to be both up or down and left or right. What I mean is with an inverted setting, the value for thumbly is 0.5 at the dead zone, inverting just makes pushing it up -1. What I would like is thumbly dead zone to be 0, and when inverted 1, so with full lock steering the clutch would be fully engaged, but pulling the stick down(or up) will decouple the clutch completely(0.0), obviously steering is prevented, but for a limited controller its a pretty good compromise and makes for much more realistic control compared to having it bound to the left shoulder button.

I don't understand why you would want that kind of setup, but here's a way to make it happen:

Thanks, just had a chance to try it now. I did play around with deadzones before but it seems the 0.55 on the deadzone end is the key, if i change that to just 0.5 then I don't have any clutch engagement.
