To start off with, my computer specs are as following:
Alienware m14x, with 2.2gHz i7, 8gig RAM, dual graphics cards - one crappy card the computer uses when on battery and an 3gb nVidia Geforce 555m.
So here's the problem i'm having: I get serious framerate issues in game, I mean ridonculous. Sometimes i drop down to like 5fps with an average of about 21fps. At first I thought beamNG must be very intensive on the CPU or memory, but after pulling up task manager mid crash (car crash), only saw the processor peak at around 22% and the memory (RAM) usage stable at around 2.8gig. So why am I getting the massive framerate issues? I think it is because beamNG is automatically using the crappy graphics card, which can i no way handle this kind of game. So the obvious solution to the problem is just to go into options at the home screen and choose the nVidia 555m graphics card, right? nope - it's on the list, as well as a device called "GFX null device", but when i select it I cant click 'Apply', and when i choose this option and click 'Done', the setting just reverts back to the crappy graphics card when i re-open the options. Occasionally the game will run ok for some reason, stable at around 30fps, but thats only on maps like the flat white one with jumps etc. If I try to play on the jungle/off road kind of maps - back down to the old 5-10fps, with 1-2 second input lag. Im pretty sure my hardware is up to the task, correct me if i'm wrong, but i think there is something messed up about the graphics processing in game. If someone could suggest a fix or at least an answer that would be just smashing :)
    Cheers, Jack.

Your fps should be 50 or higher.

I can manage about 10fps with my current old time laptop with 2GB of RAM and a bad GPU, bad everything.

Glad I'm getting a custom rig soon to play the latest titles and other things.
As soon as I get my rig, I'm buying BeamNG.

Anyway, I can get another 5FPS by stripping the car down, If you just want to drive around, a stripped car will be fine.

Thanks for the reply Sergal, I turned off the postFX settings and my FPS was increased by a bit. I also tried to change the graphics card, but to no avail - standalone, without any output screens plugged into my computer (I have a 50" plasma at the moment attached), I only have the option to select the Intel graphics card. It is only when I plug in a screen that i can see the option to choose the better graphics card (the nVidia 555m), but it cant be selected (as in, I can see it in the list and choose it, but the 'apply changes' button is unselectable. This is an incredibly strange problem - probably unique to Alienwares due to the communication between the laptop's stupid low power graphics card and the game, but do you have any ideas to force the game to use the better graphics card? or to permanently disable the Intel one? (I don't need it anyway, I use the laptop for gaming and don't have it running off battery ever). I have included a screenshot to show the options menu (in word doc). Thanks again for your time.

Edit: All good, after fiddling around with my graphics settings I found that I could force certain programs to use preset graphics options, and one thing let to another, now Im getting 50 frames easily. All good
