Just want to get a feeling for when people joined, and to satisfy a suspicion I have. Early in the year is spring/summer. Late in the year is fall/winter.
Even though August is technically summer, For whatever reason I wasn't thinking and decided to count it as late 2012. It's more than halfway through the year too and I hate that month so I just threw it in with late 2012. But I'm not going to go through a bunch of accounts for when they joined. This is just a fun little project of mine, and to satisfy my curiosity so I'm not going to spend hours on that. If people want to respond they can. I'm not hunting anyone down.
If you're looking for good data, it's probably not a good idea to make a poll in a thread here though. There's no pattern to who finds the thread and casts their vote in the poll, except maybe a loose correlation to who's a currently active member on the forums. Oh well.
Well I have nowhere else to go to get the data I want. This is just something for fun, nothing serious.
Script that iterates through forum members by ID and gets join date? No idea how to do that but it should be possible. Edit: typing this Code: document.getElementsByClassName("secondaryContent pairsJustified")[0].children[1].children[1].innerHTML into the JS console retrieves the join date as a string. I'm sure there's a better way to do this. But this shitty hack works.
Update on crappy date script: Code: function getJoinDate() { return document.getElementsByClassName("secondaryContent pairsJustified")[0].children[1].children[1].innerHTML.split(" ")[0] + " " + document.getElementsByClassName("secondaryContent pairsJustified")[0].children[1].children[1].innerHTML.split(" ")[2] } This function returns a string with month and year of join date. Now it just needs to iterate through all members and save the data then count how many people joined on each date. I actually have no idea how to do that.
The end result would probably tell us that cumulatively more and more people would join the forum per day as beamng gets more popular, with an initial surge of people joining after seeing the BeamNG physics video or migrating from ror forums.
That was kind of my thought. I feel like a lot of people joined aug/sept 2013, when it became publicly available, and also if steam sales effected the number of people who join.
"[0].children[1].children[1]" The Children! sorry on topic. who cares when i joined? your all stuck with me!
