Sometimes when you want to fully stop the car, you tap the brake, but sometimes the car automically engages reverse and goes on.
I would like to see a simple gear system like the default one in RoR (Reverse, Neutral, Drive), So you don't have to worry about the reverse gear when braking (also annoying since Reverse is sometimes engaged when the car is still sliding onwards).

Good idea. You could always use manual w/ auto clutch until then. That way it won't be arcade controls where brake = reverse.

It's kinda hard to know when to gear up/down without a hud atm :p
I'm not a big fan of manual gear in games..

That's true. I always find neutral and count from there in my head. :p

I'm sure a HUD is in the works. Kind of a necessity.

I completely agree with this, infact its one of the main problems I've got at the moment. Its near impossible to stop the car without using the parking brake. Though this will all come in future updates in sure :)

I'm using a keyboard and I like the manual w/auto clutch better than the auto. Also, I ordered a wireless xbox controller adapter. Also, in the hatchback (forget what it's called) the gear shifter looks like a mix of a manual and auto.. kinda weird..

Yes, we are going to have proper manual auto gears (P R N D 2 1) soon :)

I got quite used to manual in RoR. My game also had issues with automatic for some reason. And there was always a clutch overload. A and Z were easy to control. xD

Yep, at first in RoR I used auto, but then I tried the manual. Never went back except when driving one of the semis with 14 gears or so.

Not just controls like RoR, but it would be nice having the same camera modes too.

I'd like to second the suggestion in the OP; a gear selector would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe for people with controllers that have limited buttons have an option so instead of a gear selector you let go of the brake and press it again to go in reverse? (Like in GTA)

By default X shifts down and A shifts up (on the 360 controller). Ideally we would just make those shift up and down through the automatic gears (P R N D 2 1) on cars with automatic transmissions. The arcade mode would be retained as an option.

    Needs some difficulty settings like
-Easy Automatic(Auto shifts to reverse and drive)
-Manual Automatic (manually shift to reverse, neutral, drive, etc.)
-Easy Manual (All you do is just manually shift gears, no clutch needed)
-Realistic Manual (Clutch required, car can stall, etc.)
You know, that stuff. Give us more features and settings (easy to use, please!) so the game is more interactive. :)
Also so we can do some insane stuff, while trying to keep your car from doing bad things (curtisy of Realistic Manual), make things a little more advanced and complicated (With Easy Manual), just do something in a much better way, and have more control over your vehicle(With manual Automatic) and just play easily and do the best stunts (With easy automatic). You know, that stuff. Hope you can add that, would be nice. :)

I'd be interested to see how this would be mapped to the controller/keyboard if at all, because a realistic clutch needs to be variable and all of the variable inputs on the 360 controller (triggers and joysticks) are all taken and getting smooth input from an on/off key is tricky. Maybe realistic manual would only be usable on a wheel and pedals setup that has a clutch pedal. In that case easy manual should have an optional clutch where it will automatically handle starting out and shifting but the user can disengage when braking or maneuvering etc without needing to shift into neutral.

I'm also curious as to whether there will still be a manual mode for the auto transmissions once the new P R N D 2 1 controls are implemented. I usually run them in manual mode but after playing with the shift points I finally got them to "kick down" a bit easier. Before when I had them as auto I kept getting in situations where they would stubbornly remain in top gear when I tried to accelerate again after I slowed to a speed at which such a high gear was not as effective. Maybe I'm just used to aggressive auto transmissions...

Release throttle, floor it again. Usually fixes it although it wont be as aggressive as some may like.

Would also be nice to have a cruise control.

Maybe for clutch in gamepads and wheels with 2 pedals, etc. maybe a sort of slow release of the clutch when you let go of the button but instead of the clutch coming out at a constant speed it will automatically slow down/speed up according to power/speed/resistance (hill start)?

Yeah. sometimes that works. But sometimes I just tap the brake. Sometimes that doesn't even work. I really like the autos in this game, they simulated them well. Oh, and while we're talking about it, sometimes, in the van, if you get the speed and rpm just right, the transmission will flip between 1st and 2nd quickly.
