I'm currently working on my first map attempt trying recreate my local road course since I'm familiar with it.

Is there a way to apply a reference image to the ground model in the map editor? Ideally I'd like to lay out a scaled google earth image on the ground model in the editor to aid in laying out the map, then eventually remove or paint over it. Is this possible in T3D? I'm familiar with this technique in Solidworks, but I've yet to master the basics of the terrain editor

Simply use that as terrain texture.
First paint your terrain with 1 terrain material only. Then swap the diffuse texture to use that one (You may have to change scaling too probably)

    I see, thank you!

Next thing I need to do is get the map to scale. The long side of the track property is ~1.65km. I tried playing with the square size in the terrain block settings, while changing the texture size to suit. I'm not sure if this is the correct method or not.

The only other thing I can think of that I'm not sure of is how to properly do banked turns. I've seen the Blender tutorials, but learning Blender is like trying to drink from a fire hose. I'd prefer to keep everything simple for now as I'm still learning. That and there are only 2 corners on the track that are banked and everything else is perfectly flat.

Okay, so I think I have the scaling sorted out now using the square size method. The T75 looks to be the same scale as one of the rigs in the photo. I ended up with a square size of 8.0.
