    Are you serious?
Who's paying for this? It can't be you.

His other Fiat was new enough, it could have been easily traded over for that superduty even with a little cash on top.

Well yeah, but buying a new car every few months is expensive, no matter what you're trading up/down to.
He's like 19 and he lives at home, no way he's paying for all of this.

Took my Dart to a shop to get the alternator replaced, it was only producing enough to keep the battery at 12 volts, also gonna fit a horn, seatbelts, fix the turning signals, get a speedo in, and fit some reverse lights, so that it's street legal for when I move to San Diego from Acapulco.

Probably wont be getting her back until next friday, maybe even longer, it's sad, but at least it'll be all ready to go once I have her back.

So I didn't exactly do this myself but err... You guys remember my green old 318iS that I was gonna make for BeamNG? I got fed up with the 140hp M42 motor and it's getting a new engine as I type this... It's an M52B28, 2.8 liter inline-6. 193hp and 270nm torque... Spaghetti headers, 6-puck unsprung clutch, lightened flywheel. Super excited :D In fact so excited I literally came back to this forum just to post this, may stick around a bit :)

Engine swap in a Beemer, Not something I ever would attempt. Or at least not without many, many people with me, who are smarter than I.
I've done plenty of 350's, 454's, 6.2 diesels, several Chrysler engines, 318's, 360's, even one 440. However I'm still partially flummoxed by electronic fuel injection, one more than 2 occasions I ended up going with a Carb, just because I can make it run in my sleep.

Best of luck to you, welcome to ask me things, but no guarantees, Too many wires and not enough cylinders.

Not doign it myself mate :) The guy doing it has done it before on his E36. E36s are actually not too bad with wires. Just the EWS(anti theft thing) can be a pain in the arse but other than that it's basically plug and play. All the gearboxes of any engine bolt up to any of the engines... 316 box will easily bolt onto an M3 engine with zero issues. We're using all the parts from a donor vehicle so wiring won't be an issue either way :) Only problem is that he's very ill at the moment so I'mma have to wait at least another week...

I'm not doing it myself mate :) Guy doing it has done it before on his E36 with an M50(which is an iron block, whereas mine is aluminium or something), E36s aren't all that bad for wiring other than the anti-theft we need to get around. Sadly my guy is ill so gotta wait another week :/

Idk why they wouldn't have enough cylinders for you honestly, BMW 6-cylinders are generally a lot better than like, a 350, 440 or 454... Much better power to weight wise. Only American V8 truely worth the time/effort for an E36 would be an LS-motor but that's hugely expensive.

I love Straight sixes, when I said that I meant that I've never messed with a straight 6 more than carb adjustments and timing.

I'd take an I-6 over a V6 any day. Me and a few friends have killed waay too many V6's for me to feel comfortable with one. Over the last 5 years, the 5 of us have collectively killed 11 4.3 GM V6's, 2 3.9 Chrylser V6's, and one V6 of unknown displacement in a 92 Blunderbird.
However, we had a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 4.0 I-6, and it was absolutely un-killable. Had it for 5 years, treated like shit for 4. Survived many a neutral drop, held wide open for several minutes, (While getting stuck) Had the waterpump bearing go out, and the fan "tunnel bore" its way through the radiator, and then survive the 13 mile, back road trip back to my house, with no water pump, radiator, or serp belt. We changed the waterpump and the radiator, and it was no worse for wear.

Only got rid of that thing because the front sub-frame had started to bend, (Not from jumping it a half a dozen times, I promise) and it was going through more oil than gas at that point.

However, I still say that its hard to beat a BBC, and here's why.
You can get a 4 bolt main 454 from a junkyard for $150.
Then if you throw about $1500 into it, hey look who has 700 horsepower, and 600 ft lbs of TQ

But, you can beat a BBC, in my mind anyway.
    Enter the 472/500 Cadillac.
$90 from a junkyard (Its a "boat anchor" that nobody thinks about)
It would cost about the same to get 700 ponies from one, but its a considerably lighter engine, about 40 lbs heaver than a normal SBC, but it can make stupid amounts of torque. Even junkyard fresh, you can get a 450 ft lb making engine. and by the time you get the horspower up to around 700, the TQ has landed somewhere in the 800 ft lb range, they can hold their own against most of the newer diesel trucks. And, for a cherry on top, it'll still get 12-15 mpg doing it, that BBC would be around 8.

Then we go onto superchargers and turbos and whatnot, then you end up with some properly stupid big numbers. like 1100 horserpower 468 Chevy's.

I could go on, but I wont.

I'll gladly take a lap belt over nothing.

honestly, when I first started looking to buy it, I was sad it wasn't a v6, but once I drove it myself for the first time, I knew right there it was something special, this car was restored from nothing more than a frame with an engine in it, which remain being the only stock parts it still has, that engine has probably suffered a lot more than I might expect, but like your Cherokee, I expect it to not just give up on me anytime soon.

I do really like I-6's, My absolute favorite Ford engine ever made is the 300 I-6, had one in a 95 half ton 4wd Ford pickup, truck had over 400,000 miles on it, and it just kept going, and even had 60 lbs of oil pressure, and torque for days, the rear brake line rusted out and i just crimped it off and went with front brakes only, if the truck was anything slippery, it would push through the brakes just idling.

A friend of mine not long ago pulled a 62 3/4 ton Chevy truck with a 230 I-6 out of a barn where it had been sitting since the early 80's, we pulled it out, put a battery in it, some gas down the carb, and we drove it out to the road.

A different friend had a 82 half ton 2wd Dodge pickup with a (3.9?) Chrysler slant six, and thats another one that just refused to die. It had no power whatsoever, but it would just keep going and going, and get 25 mpg doing it.

... Would you sell my Grand Marquis for a 2005-2009 Mustang V6 with a 5-Speed?

I'm contemplating doing this.... There are quite a few 2005-2006 Mustang V6 Manuals in my area for like $7-$8500k. Perfectly in my budget. It has 30hp less than the Merc but it's 0-60 is is 1.5 seconds quicker than the Merc (8.5 for the Merc vs 7.0 for the Mustang)

    It's also 700lbs lighter.

my mother has an 06 mustang v6 auto, and it feels fast compared to the vic, but lacks top end and at the end of the day, id take the vic just for that feeling of power you get from the torque vs the mustang. oh, and when i had my permit for 6 months before my license, i managed to bring down her overall gas mileage from 21 to 16 mpg lol.
