    Name: Coastline

*Current Stage: Early WIP / Proof of Concept*

    Last Update
    :

3/31/2016 12:00 EST - Finished mapping terrain to height, progress on dunes (painted and started working on adding more), added vegetation, finished mapping main road.

3/25/2016 21:10 EST - Project re-started, tweaked vegetation, tried smoothing roads. Still need help with this! Can't get the roads to properly smooth out like I want them to.

9/24/2015 22:49 EST - More trees/brush added to forest areas, main road worked on, off road trail worked on (more to come).

9/23/2015 22:25 EST - Dunes have been added, being worked on. Added trees and a couple off road trails.

9/23/2015 18:47 EST - Initial work started, thread created.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Will feature; Realistic sand dunes (well, as far as BeamNG will allow it), small town(s), full forests you can drive into (no blocker trees), beautiful beach fronts and much more to come.

Time spent as of (3/31/16): 11 hours 9 minutes (based on Steam clocked hours)

Updates will be edited here and posted below!

Full features list: (Underlined-completed, Italics-WIP, BOLD-To be implemented)

    • Sand dunes
    • Small town (s?)
    • Off road trails
    • Fully adventurable forest land (no blocker trees in mainland)
    • Beautiful beach fronts (done, but still working on them)

    Question for the community:

As you can see in the first picture with the vehicle, the roads a still very bumpy. I've spent too long trying to use the soften/smoother tool in Torque with different results. What do you suggest I use to do so?

Note: Of course it's still very early WIP, but wanted to get a thread out there for me to post updates n stuff. :) Also, the graphics on my PC are not that great so what you see may be better or worse depending on your specs and settings.

    *Update*
Here is the latest snapshot of the whole map. It is 2048x2048. If I knew how to make it bigger, I would! So if you know how, please tell me!

Thanks for the feedback so far, guys! Please read through the entire post, there are a few questions in there.

Also, I added an updated look at the map from a birds eye view. :)

Changing the map size at this point without issues is probably impossible...not sure. When you import a heightmap
set the meters per pixel to two and adjust the terrain height accordingly. This will essentially double
the map size. You could also just make a 4096 map.

    Alright, thanks guys. :)

Also, on the roads topic. How can you smooth them out without caving the rest of the terrain in?

I am not a fan of editor tools for roads but that's me. I would suggest experimenting first with the proper
brush size. The "flatten", "smooth", and "slope" tools will be the main ones to play with. Adjust these to very
low settings to avoid nuking whole chunks of road and keep it manageable.

    Update added! Too long!

Added several pictures, be sure to see them all and tell me what you think. Also please read the update on the first page.

    Thanks! :D
    --- Post updated ---
I'd also love to know how to add flowers/more realistic looking grass n such into my map's usable art database so I can add them in.

Man, your tree work is spot on and very organic. Well done! Kind of a northern Florida flavor to it I might say.

Thanks fellas. Any of ya know how I could use a mesh to make the roads instead of textures on the terrain? Would be much easier to work with since they would be flat to begin with. If anyone can, just DM me. Thanks again! :)

Mesh roads have player step so you can use them.

If you want want to make it bigger then put the square size number up, starts at 1.

Alright, awesome! And you can choose the texture just like the road painter tool? I would see so myself but I'm at work. :p

Sweet. Where do you suggest I get the road textures since I saw on your post the decal textures don't exactly work out on mesh roads. Or was that fixed?

    You can make them yourself.

It was fixed by me widening the texture, and also turning off transparency.

You can save it as a .JPG, or .PNG. or, .DDS .

    Made some progress:

Finished mapping the terrain, finished main road (still needs smoothing work), added more trees/vegetation, experimenting with mesh roads, painted rest of the dunes area and started forming more.
