Hi I am planing to upgrade my pc soon as it is not working to well with the games i am playing now. My specks now are: Cpu: Intel pentium G3258 3,8Ghz Motherboard: Msi B85M-E45 Ram: 2x2 + 1x8 gb Gpu: Nvidia Gtx 750Ti Power supply: Corsair VS550 Case: Cooler Master CM Force 500 So my plan is to get: Intel core i5-4690K Corsair Hydro H100i GTX Corsair carbaide air 540 So is this an OK upgrade or should i go for somthing completly different?
Maybe instead of water cooling, you could buy a new graphics card. I picked up a GTX 770 for $125 on ebay and it's fantastic. Also, consider processors like the i5-4570, they have slightly less performance for way less money.
Don't go for water cooling. Get a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo instead (if you even want to have that overclockable CPU). Also, what are those 2x2GB-sticks doing in there? You sure they aren't slowing the 8GB-stick down? Also, the 750Ti would be a serious bottleneck. If you cant get an R9 390 or 490 in the near future, you shouldn't buy that CPU, but take a cheaper one instead. And if you do want to get that good of a CPU, take a 6600K instead. Supports faster RAM (yeah, couldn't run your current RAM then), and you would need a new Motherboard anyway with a 4690K. Tell me if you couldn't quite follow.
Ok i could remove the water cooling but why do i need a new motherboard? And the 2x2GB sticks of ram are probably slowing the 8 gb down but how much does it matter? And can the R9 be drive by the Powersupply i have? i could probably make room for it in my buget if i don't have to buy a new powersuply and motherboard
Your current motherboard has a B85-chipset (you can see that because it's named like that). If you want to overclock an i5-4690K, you have to have one called Z97 and a bunch of other letters and numbers, and if you want to overclock an i5-6600K, you need one that is called Z170 and some other letters and numbers, for example Z170-K. The amount that they are slowing it down is probably not too much. At least not that big that it would have a serious impact on gaming performance. You can of course remove the two sticks and try it out, but you shouldn't really realise any major difference. As for the power supply, I calculated that with an online calculator and it seems to work just fine.
Ok so I can ceep this motherboard and that cpu, but I cant overcloc? I dont think that matter to much as the unlocked cpu an the locked one is basicly the same price How much worst is the i5-4460?
It's not much worse. Basically the same price/performance, just cheaper. Still very good for gaming, and good enough not to bottleneck cards like the 390 in most games. If you don't need the best performance you can possibly get in like BeamNG and want to save money for your video card, it's actually the better choice. And of course you can keep your mainboard when you buy a 4460.
Ok so what fps are we tolking about with the 4460? and is there any other in the 4690k s price range ( and under)that I can buy without having to replace the motherboard?
Get an i5-4460. Keep your board and case. Use the stock cooler. Upgrade GPU ASAP (it's the actual bottleneck in your system, though the Pentium would bottleneck a better GPU). Click on the first link in my signature for more stuff on PC parts.
Ok so what GPU should I go for? is the R9 390 a good mach for the rest off the parts? and If its a good one, what version?
390 is good, however unless you need it right now you might want to wait for Polaris, much better power efficiency and better performance too. If you do get a 390 go for Sapphire Nitro if it fits in your case, MSI or XFX if the Sapphire doesn't fit.
Ok thanx for the help everyone Just one last question, and you are shure the powersupply is strong enough?
