    Hi,

I know this has been touched on before but I wondered if anyone had a way of making part of a J-Beam behave like fibreglass (not denting on impact just snapping large sections off/disintegrating) . Sort of need this for a car I'm doing at the minute to be realistic.

I wondered if there were some setting I could give the beams or a certain structure I could build to encourage that sort of damage.

    Thanks in advance,

    Robbie

I'm not exactly sure but if it would be realistic but having predefined snapping points with defined nodes and having them held together at a realistic strength it could work. However the FPS could be quite low.

Doesn't the Pigeon have a fiberglass body? I could be wrong but I thought I heard that the Pigeon body was fiberglass. Also since you say that you need a fiberglass Jbeam for a car your making, I can't help but think there's a Corvette or Feiro in the works. Just a guess. ;)

It can't be done all that well, unless you had a really high-res node/beam structure with predefined fracture points. You could, however, make it very stiff and brittle (high spring) and set the deform higher than the strength. That way, the panel won't dent; parts of it will just break, and then pieces of the mesh will disappear where beams have broken. You can see that effect already with plastic parts of some cars, like the fascias/grilles on the D15, H15, and Covet.

Cool, is it not possible to make the "broken" parts remain visible after they snap off or do they have to disappear?

I'm guessing they just have to disappear.

(EDIT) Holy crap I'm late to this discussion.
