I don't think I will ever be able to find one of those. I am not entirely sure of Nissan either, even though it is available in the U.S, I have seen very few go up for sale, just a few badly rusted ones from the 1990's. --- Post updated --- What year and model is it?
If you are going old and want it to be reliable, Toyota. Tacoma or Tundra/T100 are both great reliable options. Not saying the others are that bad, but then again American cars are defiantly not know for their reliability.
As much as I hate to admit it; you aren't entirely wrong there. The Toyota Tacoma seems to be a really popular rig back home in Idaho where they are regularly beaten to death on logging roads, and they seem to hold up fairly well for a while, just pray they don't start breaking down. While they aren't as appealing to the eyes as good ol' American steel (made in Canada), they're pretty cheap and reliable.
Silverado's seem nice. My grandpa's daily-driver is a '01 Silverado 1500 crew cab, and it never needed anything under the hood. The only thing he needed was a new drivers seat, he wore the old one out to a point were you could see the foam. He also has a '89 Silverado, but that's more of a work truck, but all that's ever needed was a new alternator. In the end, what you get is your choice, I'm just suggesting Chevy.
I would recommend any ford truck, also Nissan makes very reliable vehicles, my father owns a 2008 Nissan Frontier and has 80,000 miles on it and it has never broken down or had to have any major repairs. I would never buy any GM product after 2009.
If you want reliable, you can't beat Toyota. I once heard of someone driving for a week with no oil whatsoever and the truck was fine. As someone mentioned earlier though, they've got less torque than American models.
All that's been established is (for the most part) people picking their favorite brand and saying all others suck. Go for anything in your budget that is in nice condition. For example, you can get a rusted out Cummins with $5k just because people said it's good; or you could find a clean, few owner, little to no rust, Silverado (just an example) for $5k which would last you ages longer. All I'm really saying is look at what you have available to choose what truck is the nicest --- least amount of rust, miles, body condition, etc. Just in general look at the vehicle; it's usually a sign of how well (or not so well) it was taken care of.
In my area, 1990's chevys are always in pretty good condition, that has also been what I have been looking for the most.
I like mine, and all of the mid-90's Chevys I've been behind the wheel of; but they do tend to be fairly unreliable (although mine has 250,000 miles on it at this point).
I personally like everything except Chevy, with Dodge and Toyota being my two favorites. Chevys (Chevies? Chev? Chevs?) in my opinion are absolute garbage. Unreliable, ugly, and the interior. My god, the interior is like burning in hell, but worse.
