Brake fade *is* warming up. 4 wheel disks on a modern car can still fade very rapidly. Replacement of pads/disks/drums is wear not fade. It has been said a few times in this thread already now.
Yeah, 4-wheel disc brakes can warm up rapidly when you consider that modern cars have a split braking system which is 80% front, 20% rear.
Yes, wearing not fading. I'm not good with car tech terms in English. :< Older cars have disc brakes on front and drum brakes at rear. For example '88 Fleetside Pickup, '93 Beretta and '99 Brava. But, disc brakes do not get affected by high temperatures that much but drum brakes does. Or at least thats what they taught me at driving school.
I think that's due to their reaction when they warm up. When drum brakes get hot, they tend to expand and get away from the pads. If someone could confirm...
Disc brakes arent affected by high temperatures? Nah, trust me mate, when brake fade hits you in a 4 wheel disk equipped vehicle, thats fun times...
This would be REALLY cool, but there is one problem... it isn't really necessary. You wouldn't use a car so long before you reset it.
Horsepower loss? I agree. Brake fade? No; you can cook the brakes in just a single lap around a race track, especially on big heavy cars with drum brakes. Brake fade is simulated in many other racing games already and it should be added to BeamNG.
I am absolutely dumbfounded that people in this thread are still confusing brake fade and wear. Fade can occur within a single lap of a racetrack. Wear is not fade and not likely to happen in BeamNG, though if you are waiting until your real life car is about to be written off without replacing your brakes you're an idiot, they are a regular maintenance item like tyres.
Guys I figured it all out. Maybe. This car part wear thingy is implemented, it should work at least on career mode as difficulty increaser. The game should track the distance you drive and then after some distance, you will have to replace the discs/pads/whatever. If you smash the brakes hard all the time in races, then the distance is shorter. I drove my car around 222k km's and I had to replace the brake pads (disc brakes at front). Same thing with major engine parts, after about 200-300k kilometers you need to change engine's timing belt (not chain) except if the engine was replaced before that 300k km. There are obviously some other parts in the car that may need replacing like oil filter, oil and the other stuff I don't know about. Haters will hate obviously, so thats why this should/could be an optional choice when starting the career mode.
222k km without pad replacement???? That's insane. They should be replaced far more often than that mate. Most manufactures recommend timing belt more often than that too
I didn't think that through. The car did have at least 2 different owners before me so it makes my statement obsolete... The Internet keeps saying that timing belt should be replaced after around 160k km but I have heard IRL that they can last around 200k. km. Obviously many cars, or at least models, have their own numbers so it's up to developers what numbers they would like to use.
my ford focus was on its 3rd belt at 152000 miles. Brake pads should be replaced every 30-40000 miles, its possible for them to last alot less, at least DIY replacement is easy on them.
