Hello, I'm new here :) My name is BailsBach. I currently don't have the game, but am interested in buying. Instead of worrying about Steam refunds, I'm curious on whether anyone can define how the game seems to run on a "gaming" laptop - so to speak.

So, I've tried the tech demo, and get 30fps constant & stable on medium settings. But, my only issue is that the tech demo is fairly limited, therefore I was wondering if the performance has improved / gotten worse since Febuary 2015? Also, does the game run slower on different maps - if so, how slow? Finally, do mods make the game slower? (normal poly amount cars, etc).

Thanks again, hope to see you all soon :)

Having more mods doesnt slow the game down, though of course performance of each vehicle mod may vary the same way the stock T series is laggier than the pigeon. Having them installed, no difference, running them, may vary performance mod to mod.
ECA and JRI tend to be far more resource intensive maps than previous maps. Can lag a fair bit more. Some users are having issues with the new Utah map, some are not (ie, me, whereas I do have issues in ECA and JRI).

Performance as a whole should be better than tech demo though.

To estimate performance, it helps to know what your computer's specifications are.

Alright, nice! Thanks for your comment. very insightful. :D

Well, my specs are quad core i5 3317U, NvidiaGeforce720M, 8GB ram. To be fair, knowing that I get 30FPS on mostly medium settings should prompt whether my performance will outstand. I can run most games at 30fps or more, but some vary. Say, The Forest for instance, I run that at 15fps, since my graphics card is terrible.

The i5 3317U is actually an hyperthreaded dual core, not a quad core.
Since the last update the game is eating quite less cpu ressources But with your (very bad) graphic card I'd say that you will have the same performances.
But is the techdemo limited to gridmap or have you access to other maps to test performance ? Personally I'm at ~57fps on gridmap but ~30~25fps on more intensive maps.

720M may have issues on most maps outside of grid map

AMD FX series has bad performance, because BeamNG requires single core performance.
Overclock it to get better performance, but there is only so much you can do to keep up with Intel

He could set light quality to Normal instead of high and shadows to partial, if driving mostly at day that would not have huge effect on visual quality and it might help with CPU GFX thread load. Observing CPU load from task manager and learning which core runs GFX thread helps to know when to change detail settings so that GPU stays fed and FPS stays high.

Mesh detail for example affects CPU and GPU, light detail affects how much shadows needs to be computed.

Then there is really funny stuff with shaders, those can effect CPU load or/and FPS a lot at some mod maps without having much of any effect on GPU load. Experimenting methodically is best way to get most graphics quality and performance out from system in this game, having tools to show GPU load and CPU load for individual core helps.

I think he should be fine with cars, but more complex vehicles might require some work to get it to run smoothly, depends from a lot of variables though.

Update: What Veyron mentioned in other thread was that he had that FX 8350 and it did not run T-series cement mixer very well, for i7-6700 that cement mixer is causing 50% load for single thread which runs physics, I don't know if that gives any perspective to what to except from CPU though.

For me GFX thread that CPU runs is hardest to run, all physics are less taxing, at least with single vehicle, with lights on GFX thread becomes very heavy very quickly especially with several high beam lamps, so avoiding that might be good idea.

Um.. I just came back to the thread to finally say that I have a new PC. The game runs at an average of 120fps with 1 car, 90-100 with 2 cars, and 60+ with 3-4 cars on high / ultra settings with dynamic textures. So it doesn't have an issue with performance. :)
