After Building a new PC i salvaged a disc drive from an old dell inspiron that died a few years ago for a couple days it worked opens and what not how ever it made a lot of noise when the drive started up now it wont open without the paper clip or a DVD is already inside it could it be a dust problem since the computer was caked in dust when i salvaged it The computer I salvaged the drive looks like this
disk drives are mechanical, they do suffer genuine mechanical wear and tear through usage, doesnt help that their gears are usually low quality plastics that wear quickly. While you could vacuum it, its pretty safe to say its a busted drive, they dont last forever. Not like anybody needs disks these days.
Well i need one since my one game relys on a disk and i dont really want to fork out some money when i have one but what if i dake an air compresser with a light bit of air to it or should i take it apart and see the problem
tbh, I am dumbfounded that a guy could question dust, and then not try clearing the dust out himself... otherwise theres nothing you can do Rip the disk to an ISO and use windows native ISO mounting tools?
This is probably the best option for OP. Its not like they are expensive. You can probably pick up several for under $10 used, or you could buy a new one for ~$15.
actually im not sure if an air compressor is safe or not i dont have pc dust cleaners around so im not sure if the air compressor is safe if the air in it contains a lot if moisture
Well since your disc drive is probably going out anyways, you can just take the chance of getting a little bit of moisture in it. It's not like its much water anyways. If you want to be sure you can spray a little bit of alcohol in it like Bräkklen/brake cleaner or isopropanol. It will dissolve the moisture and make it evaporate with the alcohol. But beware as it might dissolve any oils or greases used in the bearings.
