As the title says, in the Steam Summer Sale I will be getting one of the two, and I was wondering which one is better. FYI, I don't have a wheel (yet), but I do have a 360 controller.
I own AC and I think it's great. I tried PCars in a game store last winter with the new G29 but it felt a little odd to me. But someone with more experience with both games can tell more.
Coming from probably the opposite experience of machine (played pCARS more but own both), here are my pros and cons (+ and -): Assetto Corsa: + AI is pretty decent and can be aggressive when it needs to + Sound engine is great + Handling is great, pretty controller-friendly but does need some fiddling + Nicely optimised, I can run it at 4K and still almost get 60fps + Damage is rather nice, parts can deform and fall off + DLC content is nice, mods are heavily supported so there is plenty of content + You can manually pick AI's cars instead of just having them drive similar ones to you by default - Chase camera feels odd, weirdly attached to the car - No dynamic lighting of any kind, race time is preset with no weather besides clouds - Career mode isn't much more than a series of challenges - No spotter or pitcrew chatter - Interface is a bit clunky - No proper race features such as warmups and qualifying (IIRC), no flags (I think?) pCARS + Supports up to 55 cars (54 AI + you) depending on the track + Well optimised, runs well despite a full grid of cars + Amazing graphics + Handling is great when configured well + Dynamic time of day and weather, time and weather progression speeds can be set independently + Good DLC content + Camera can be adjusted easily + AI is very adjustable and can be challenging + Huge selection of tracks + Career mode is authentic, you sign into racing leagues and race championships, there's a fake Twitter thing where fans talk about your performance which is nicely done + Bigger car selection in stock game - Default controller scheme is terrible, you'll probably need to configure a LOT to get it feeling right - Sound is accurate, although everything is a bit overblown and sounds distorted - While mods are supported, there are only one or two cars available because it's more fiddly than AC - Physics can glitch out at some points, I've seen times where a car has flipped after touching an invisible object - Visual damage isn't really great, parts mainly just fall off as opposed to deforming Overall pCARS has higher highs and lower lows, IMO. I like it more than AC overall because it's longer lasting due to having much more content, but with the list above you can hopefully decide for yourself.
